    Hi,

I am currently working (early stage) on a DJ-ing application for MorphOS. I am looking for a computer fitted with two sound cards.

For a decent DJ-ing app, it needs two audio outputs : one for speakers, one for headphones.

I have no computer equiped with two sound cards currently. MorphOS lacks isochonous USB for example which means that only computer with PCI slots can have dual sound cards.

No luck for me, no PCI computer at hands.

To make it short, I need someone equiped with dual sound cards for some testing session.

    If you're intersted, PM me.

And for a teaser, here is a screenshot.

Is it a MUI GUI? Looks good!
I'm working on a similar app and will also need to create something similar.

Yes. That's tokai's MUI settings named Mahalaxmi (unspellable without checking first!).

    Nothing to show yet?

With the help of Jambalah, we have checked the dual output with AHI on two soundcards.

    It works.

Thanks for the help for checking that very point.

    No... Not yet.

This will be a virtual analogue synthesizer.
The environment part is almost ready, but still fighting a bit against AHI.
I think, the AHI handling is the hardest part.

    Are there other MUI themes?
How can I save the current? I have slightly modified the default one.

To save your current changes in MUI Preferences: Project menu -> Save As...
You can also achieve the same by right-clicking on the "Settings" button, still in MUI Preferences.

To load one of the provided MUI "themes" (a bunch of settings saved using the "Save As..." menu, in fact), right-click on the "Settings" button in MUI Preferences and select one of:
    - "skin: Ferox"
    - "skin: Mahalaxmi"
    - "preset: stuntzi"
    - etc...

    Nice! :-)

I can also try it on Efika if that's useful? Onboard audio + soundcard installed in PCI slot (UI is via VNC/Virtual monitor driver).

Does it handle mixing tracks recorded at different frequencies/bitdepths?
Does it handle output through multiple cards at different frequencies (eg onboard Efika is fixed at 48KHz iirc, whereas envy24HT PCI card may be 96/192)?

    Best regards

    Hi Rich,

I doubt it will be possible to use this on Efika with a virtual graphic board. The application has two large scrolling area that will make any computer crawls with VNC remote display.

Currently, for the sake of simplicity, Sound Bankster only mixes stereo 16 bits 44100Hz samples (and enforces this at loading track) and is designed for outputing at this sampling rate too.

As it relies on Reggae framework for output, all the downsampling/upsampling is done by AHI (which might result in audible artefact afaik.).

Btw, dual output has already been tested and seems ok (I don't have a dual sound card setup to confirm).

I spent some days working on this pet project and it became quite usable now. It still has too many glitches for a release and still misses all the mandatory polish : docs, icons, translation... which takes always a while to complete (who said boring part? :)).

Also, I have an USB DJ controller deck but guess, it has proprietary protocol... so currently no external deck for driving the application. This will come at a later stage I hope.

Heh, can't see the poor Efika liking that very much ;-)

Interesting - as a non-programmer I have a limited insight into these issues, so it's always insightful and educational to hear how they are handled.

Is there any way some of the 'boring part' could be offloaded to non-programmers? In the past I'd discussed writing readmes/help docs (mainly to standardise rather than offload the work) but if there is a core of work that is common to many applications which doesn't require programming knowledge, perhaps we could set up a small group of users to handle this (icons, docs, translations, grunch DB entries, etc).
I'm sure Papiosaur (Hi dude!) would be interested, as well as some others, but it's just whether it would be worthwhile (in terms of saving time for coders).

Offloading is possible. If you're willing to spend free time writing documentation... :)
