I'm a regular donor to AROS Development Fund via power2people.org ( http://power2people.org/funds/aros/ ) and I've wondered if it wouldn't be a good idea of having a similar option for MorphOS as well. Some of us don't know what projects are the most useful or pressing to donate for. So people like us would donate a sum every month and some board of developers (for example) would take the money and regularely add them to different bounties, or use it to start new ones.

Sounds like a good idea?

I think all of us have special needs and wishes. So donating to a certain software or developer should be easy and obvious. Have you heard of someone giving away money for "any" bounty? I think who wants to donate can choose on his own. Otherwise he may just complain "oh why did you give it to him but not to her?". Who has money knows best whom to give it, I think. Besides that it takes another group of people to decide and assign the pot to other bounties - why generate more effort for no real use? Better donate directly. Or roll a dice and donate to what project comes out.

Ehm, I thought it was obvious that some people (like me) would like to do something like this. Especially since some people do this with AROS. So apparently it's not a waste of effort.

It's of course easy to just donate a bunch of money to anything that sounds good, but a lot of effort needs to be done for boring stuff too. Stuff that doesn't on face value sounds so interesting. It's for these cases where a cash pool comes into great use. And since I'm for once isn't competent enough to pick and choose, I like that some trusted people would do it instead.

As long as donons can see where the money eventually goes the exact form doesn't really matter. But I like it how they do it at power2people. It's all automatic and now they are discussing at Aros-exec what to use their collected $2000+ for.
