What do you want in your MorphOS

I'm new to the Morphos Scene
But two things I'd like to see on MorphOS

    1. WHDLoad

2 Word processor that is word compatible

or some sort of Open Office

I know these items have been talked about a lot. I couldn't program my way out of a wet paper bag so don't ask me I wouldn't even know if it were possible to do.

I suppose I trying to get a general consensus on what others want and what could be used to improve MorphOS.

Hopefully the powers that be (ie: those people who can program themselves out of a wet paper bag) will make changes or here what others have to say. The more that is available the more powerful an OS we have to work with and more people becoming registered users.

I hope that some of us can come up with some cool ideas and thoughts on this.
Although I'm not into branding or names but offer stickers or domed computer badges to show off proudly on there equipment (by equipment I mean there computers)

In the world of computing I know that the MorphOS community is growing I for one was very impressed at the speed and how cheap I did it for as far as Hardware goes.

I couldn't afford a X1000 I couldn't find a Phase 5 and even if I could that would again fall into the same category can't afford it . I have an A600 which is OK but I wanted something more and that best thing I could come up with was MorphOS on a Mini Mac which is pretty darn cool. I look forward to seeing future development.

Thanks to all those guys at MorphOS I look forward to other peoples response

1.(E)UAE, WHDLoad and properly setup mime-types can get you quite far. Can't be included into the ISO for obvious reasons (and even if it could would still be wrong to include them).

Is there any legal reason AROS-m68k couldn't be bundled with E-UAE on the ISO?

EUAE and WHDLoad with properly set up mime types still requires someone to build a functioning workbench setup in UAE to kick into with EUAE, and then softkick again into WHDLoad. This still (to me) seems wasteful. Why can't we figure out a way to duplicate sort of what's been built into WHDLoad already? Right now, you want to run a WHDLoad slave, you have to boot workbench and then softkick from there. Wouldn't it make more sense for us to find a way to just softkick into the rom required for that specific slave and skip the majority of the underlying bootup of a full workbench?

And this was my thinking as well.

On the other side of this is it even possible.

So far I very happy with Morphos

I could write down my wish list of different new tools, like a MIDI sequencer, PCB editor, a Photoshop like tool, etc., but at first I would be delighted with a nice, detailed, well written MorphOS Manual with pictures, howtos, etc.
    This could
    - prevent the new users ask the same question always, or just ease the first steps.
    - give to everyone some tips, how could they use MOS more effectively.
    - be a reference, where everything is there. No need to dig the net/this forum for infos.

Then, I really woud love to see some more developer tools, like a working MUI GUI designer. (MUI Builder is there, but doesn't work well on MOS 3.2).
I know, MUI is very simple, if somebody knows it well, but... I think I'm not the only guy wo isn't familiar with MUI, but would like to develop a small tool sometimes.

Finally, it could be also nice to have a better collection of available programs for MOS. On MorphOS Files, many programs doesn't work on the current release. This is also an annoying thing.

It is rather impossible to test all the 640 (for now) packages with every release of MorphOS. If you have found some non-working ones, please report it to the administrator (e-mail address is given in the site footer), or at least here. It should be also noted that some packages may work only on some configurations, because of hardware or software limitations.

Anyway... Which packages do not work with MorphOS 3.2?

When I started using MOS (one year ago), I tried more and experienced some problems. Can't remember the names.

The only title is Mui Builder, what I'm sure it is flawed.
    (It hurts the most!)

The symptom is: Looks like works correctly, but doesn't generate the C code.

Note that MorphOS Files is not "appstore". Submitted packages are only verified formally. It is checked that archive unpacks properly, it contains what its name says, and - if it contains executables - if they run and do not crash the system. MUIBuilder passes all these formal tests.

If there are some bugs inside the program, or it does not work as expected you should contact program authors, not package repository administrator.

As the administrator of MorphOS Files, I see no reasons to remove this package. If you will find some other packages with broken links, corrupted archives, executables crashing at start, unexpected files in an archive - feel free to report it here, or drop me an e-mail. However if you just find some bugs in software, please contact its authors.

I took a look at MUIBuilder at MorphOS files and it is broken. When generating code it tries to open muibuilder.library but this is failing for some reason. Then I took a look into source code and muibuilder.library init code is seriously broken so it is not surprise.

See the SourceForge page for more improvements. Mazze on the AROS team is the current maintainer. He has done several fixes and if it's not working yet, he'd be very interested in the fix.

I think that the subject has been already analyzed but just for the record, e-uae with whdload integration would be great (double clicking a slave on Ambient and execute whdload on the background). The above could be distributed through Pack Chrysalis and a simple copy / paste of appropriate kickstarts, from the user point of view should be sufficient. Also, Morphos runs on machines with the required horsepower (G4>1Ghz) which could be potentially used for low end home/office use. That would require however a proper memory protection (because no one sane enough would put himself to the minimum risk of having an application crashing out of the blue thus losing his work now and then) and of course Open/Libre office which offer modern features (with MS office compatibility being one of them).

For quite a few years now, many (most?) DVD players have been able to play 'normal' video files. When you insert a DVD or CD with video files, the DVD player will simply show a list of the files and allow you to pick one by using the arrow and OK buttons on your remote control.

In fact, some DVD players even include USB ports so you can attach USB flash drives or harddisks to more easily access common media files.

This trend is continuing with TVs. Many new flatscreen TVs are able to play videos files from USB or even network devices.
