Sound output very low?

    Hello,

The main output of my Peg2 is significantly low. I don't use amplified speakers (actually cheap small mini speakers) but when I connect the speakers to my headphones socket on the board (my case has a front socket for headphones) the volume is much higher as it should be.

Is it normal that the headphones socket has higher volume?

Is it normal that my main audio output at the back of Pegasos is very low?

And- do I have to use amplified speakers?

    I noticed it too!
I didn't try the connectors from the PCB yet, but yes the sound from the back outputs is very low.
..there will be only one left.

    Pffft, no idea :-P

But...I guess headphone output is always a bit louder, but also depending on the headphones. I've got a expensive Sennheiser headphone that gives double the volume output (and bass :)) compaired to a cheap thing I got with my walkman.

But you should always connect your computer to your hifi system. and if that is not a possibility go for some expensive speakers with a build in amplifier. If you want to actually enjoy your mp3's/movies/dvd's that is :-P

I am no hardware-expert, but my experience using the AC97 is that it has very limited internal amplifiaction compared to more professional solutions. My advice would be to either get yourself a soundblaster card, or buy an external amplifier :-)

    @muckboy

I also have a PC with AC97 on board and its volume output under windows is much much higher than the Peg.

My Peg's volume output is SO low that I have to bring the speaker closer to my ear and check if there is any sound, and yes, I can barely hear a sound coming from the speakers.

    Any more ideas?

Uhm, you mean you are using speakers without inbuild amplifier ?
Then it's not a miracle that you cannot hear anything :-)

That sounds weird. I have really no idea. The only thing I can think of is either an AHI-conflict or faulty settings of the internal sound-mixer.

    Most sound outputs need amplification,
I have two old PC's and one needs amplified
speakers and the other is fairly loud as is.
On my Pegasos, the sound plays louder with
Amplifier than Songplayer, I like both players
for different reasons. I don't know
why the volume is different, maybe the software?
I would just hook up to an amp or amped speakers
    for more sound.
