Since yesterday my G5 2,7 GHz MOS system became unable to access the internet.

I start OWB or Grunch and as soon as they start trying to load something from the net, the program freezes and must reboot. It also make other programs unable to load in the process. If I start OWB and don't try to load any HP everything works fine.

I had some sort of prefs loading error just before this started as well.

So, any ideas short of a full reinstallation?

If your g5 is liquid cooled, check that is getting the correct refrigeration. IF the temperature is too high, it could lead to symptoms like the ones you described.
You said that your g5 is a 2.7, so it must be a liquid cooled, so check it out asap.

Sounds like HW related problem, overheating or hard drive failure. Try to boot MorphOS from CD and check if you get the same symptoms?

This is WHY I am going with heatsinks instead.
Proven 72c if you remove the LCS.

You cannot generalize about that as my LCS cooled G5 makes me no trouble at all. It's just the matter of proper taking care of your HW.

I can't do anything anymore. So I'm going for a full reinstall. Doesn't matter much since I haven't been able to do anything. But I'm not convinced that it's HW related per se, since it all started after a setting got corrupted somewhere. Up until then, everything has worked just fine.

A fresh reinstall seems to have worked. Internet works again and the random freezeups are gone. Let's hope it stays :-)
