Hi everyone,
On the MorphOS mailing list, we came up with the idea of establishing a hardware compatibility database, to be able to increase our common knowledge base. Something like this:
http://www.intuitionbase.com/comphard.php
I spoke to Targhan about this idea of ours, and I've
received a possitive response from his part.
However, we need to find some volunteers to get this thing going.
Three/four persons are needed:
1) We need someone to collect the informations that the users send (addition or modifications), translate it if necessary and "format" it so that entering it into the database is a quick task. I can do this job, and since it was me that brought up the subject, will do it.
2) We need someone who can maintain the database. The idea is to have a text list or PHP table. This person will take the input from 1, and insert it in the DB.
This person should also send the updated DB to
Targhan.
3) Someone to act as backup for 1 (vacations, etc.).
4) Someone to act as backup for 2. I could do it if
no one else comes up.
5) If possible, someone from the MOS team to act as link between them and the people who do the jobs described above. This can help them(MOS team) and us (users) to better share information about hardware-related issues.
I know it is a lot to ask you to give this project some of your time, but most of you are already doing it each time you help us newbies get this or that piece of HW going on our beloved Pegasos. This way, at least, we (noobs) will nag you a lot less
Please, also post your ideas about the fields that this database should contain. For starters, I propose the following:
Submiter
Tested HW, including vendor, manufacturer (not always the same, and may be important for GFX cards), model (and revision if possible).
Tested with which application(s)
Results of test (OK, partial success, errors, etc.)
Host machine (PegI/PegII), firmware rev number
Host processor
Host RAM (amount, quantity of sticks, manufacturer, model)
Host OS (MOS version, Ambient version, driver/stack version)
Special procedures to make it work (yes, we will ask you to share the dirty tricks we all use to make reluctanct HW work).
Thanks a lot!
