irronically jet airplanes have more to do with the ozone and greenhouse effects then anything else.
There are many things to take into account. The fluctuation of CO2 in the atmosphere is a rather complex issue and it is hard to measure which CO2 goes up to the stratosphere. Not hard to measure is that the CO2 partial pressure is rising there.
Noone can give warranties now wether the CO2 emissions are changing the climate or not, but warranty can be given that a reduction of CO2 emission can't hurt the climate.
It is a very complex field, and the temperature rising is most likely a positive feedback process, hence it's most likely too late now anyway.

The other issues hurt the air we breath and our water, but they never enter the atmosphere contrary to popular belief. MOst polutants are heavier then air and only float when there hot as they cool down they setttle back to the earth.
Gases don't behave only on mass gradients...

on the other hand jets are so high up there that the smog they produce goes right up :(
Yes - planes are a major problem for the environment. Time to use more high speed trains like the Shinkansen, TGV or ICE - The ICE3 has reached a good energy efficience now (but suffers on bad software).

Whenever you're sad just remember the world is 4.543 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie.
