    Is there any way to determine how high is the temperature of the CPU? I have random crashes, and I really don't know what causes them... :/

    This popped up elsewhere, the only way is to put a thermometer of some sort on the CPU (or use your finger to guage it!). Perhaps a digital meter mounted on the outside, with sensor on the CPU/heasink with heat transfer compound? (something like this?)

    There is a teperature sensor in G3 and G4 processors, but they give very inaccurate feedback ...

    :(

    I always dreamed of CPU-temperature display in my statline, like on linuxpc's... :(

    One of the things the powerpc processors are known for is low temperature operation. I believe if you go to pegasosppc.org, there is a temperature comparison chart between the powerpcs and some standard other processors. I've never had problems in mine and I've got my case loaded.

    HarryO43 - I suspect those temperatures are under "normal stress" conditions. That is general use when the CPU isnt doing a lot of work.

    I would expect that with any computer (like mine) that runs RC5-72 and/or does things like 3D rendering or sound/picture manipulation then the temperature would be a few more degrees than in that chart ;-)

    A proper temp gauge would be nice though!

    @GK_LKA:

    as soon as the functionality for getting cpu temperature is working in exec (maybe in MOS 1.5?) statline will have a placeholder for cpu temperature. Code is done, but it does not returns any value yet.

    regards,
    tokai

    and a small update for statline is coming soon. :-)

    I did measurements with my G3 and a digital thermometer and discovered that the CPU runs quite hot. More than 60 C. And the Thermometer had only poor contact to the heat sink. My guess is that the core reaches 70C - 80C. Anyway the system runs stable I'm RCing now 48 hours without interruption and the system is still stable.
    IBM docs for the 750Cx(e) say the temperatur range is from 0C to 105C. the 7447 is also said to work with temperatures up to 105C...

    My G4 is running now with 50.3C, Crunching RC5 since yesterday, my G3 was running with up to 63C. All measured with a digital thermometer between CPU and Heatsink!

    Thanks for answers. So my CPU temp. is ideal, but then what is wrong in my system...? I have to look at the software side...

    @Bifford,

    You're right. Would be nice to have something like the peecees motherboard monitor in place to measure temps from the system.

    My G4 ran at about 53C until I bought a new Highspeed fan which I control with my AeroGateII. Now i crunch Dnet at about 32C, which is much closer to my liking. and my cpu fan only runs about 3600 rpm ( which isn't too noicy for me )

    Yeah that fan on the G4 Card makes so much noise.
