I'm starting the port to morphos of comics!, a cbr/cbz (comic book) viewer i wrote for aros.
I use datatypes to open jpg, png etc.
What datatype can i use in morphos? Is there a built in one? Or should i download something? Thx!

jpg, png and other common formats are build in/provided on the ISO.

....erm sure they are installed.....

Just check wether the pictures in question load in Ambient when doubleclicking (or can be viewed with Multiview,Mysticview...).

Only if that fails you might have to search for a datatype catering whatever exotic filetype you've encountered.

I'm having the same issue i had on Aros: 8 bit jfif images are not well displayed (I obtain a sort of corrupted and "posterized" negative) On Aros i modified the original jpeg datatype transforming on the fly in memory the 8 bit in a 24 bit one without altering the original file on disk: i used in fact an alternative version of jpeg datatype. How can i do on morphos?
