Great to hear. Was this introduced only with v1.5.2 without mention in the release notes, or was this already in v1.5 (with the rather cryptic realease notes line "update to ffmpeg 6.1.4 altivec version (work on non-atlivec[sic!])")?

This was already introduced with the first BeWorld version.
I think the line should have been "works on non-altivec"
