    Yoo!

    Just figured I would ask to see if it would even be possible to put some kind of a chat client for MorphOS that would handle Facebook chat. I forget the name of the program on Linux but it had the possibility to log into facebook chat.

    Sure logging into the actual site does ok and works, but also FB eats up alot of ram and slows the machine down so if you were to run emulators it will hiccup every so often. Figured an actual client would free up alot of the resources.

    Times like this I wish I knew how to program so I can attempt such projects. :) Wishful thinking. Take care!

    I think Facebook supports the open standard XMPP/Jabber instant messaging protocol, so it should be possible. There's a jabber client for MorphOS called Jabberwocky, you can find the latest version here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/ajabberwocky/files/Jabberwocky/1.9/

    here are the settings for Facebook :

    domain/server : chat.facebook.com
    user : {your facebook user}
    password : {your facebook password}
    port : 5222
    you may have to disable SSL/TLS

    i haven't tried myself, and i'm too lazy to even have a look at it, maybe it's not even supported but worth trying.
    Otherwise Pidgin on linux can connect to Facebook chat, so it should be too hard to look at the source code.

    Thanks for the information. I don't think there is an area where you an change the port number or enabling/disabling ssl/tls.. Least not the options I seen available. For now it just sits on Connecting and thats it.

    From the initial posting:

    "FB eats up alot of ram and slows the machine down so if you were to run emulators it will hiccup every so often. Figured an actual client would free up alot of the resources."

    Just don't like the fact that once you are chatting away and browsing facebook it pretty much slows down the machine on emulation. Figured using something like a client would free up the resources so you can switch between FB chat and whatever else you want to do.

    I used Jabberwocky for the facebook chat. There were some minor bugs but since some weeks I only get a "sasl authentication failed" on MorphOS and AmigaOS in the Console.

    I'm using AmIRC and a public bitlbee server (www.bitlbee.org for more informations) to use the Facebook chat function.
