Mac Mini Died

    Hi,

I was running MorphOS 3.2 in my Mac Mini (1.5GHz / 64MB VRAM) and
    decided to update to 3.5.1.
Upgrade seemed to go well from CD. After update was finished I ejected
the CD and selected restart (or reboot - can't remember which term MorphOS uses).
MAC did a shutdown and then - nothing... and by nothing I mean that it seems to be totally dead. Doesn't power up with power button. No light, no sound, no spinning fan...

I thought it might be some kind of a problem with the power supply - even though I measured 18.5V in pins 2 and 4 - so, I bought another power supply. Still the same problem.

I also tried to reset the PMU (Press power button while plugging in the power cord) and finally opened the case and changed the PRAM battery to a new one also - but no luck.

Any ideas what to try... or should I just try to find another Mac?

    Hi Timo,

maybe its a too simple idea. But if you accidently clicked shutdown instead of restart. You might just have
    a broken Powerbutton...

try to shortcut it with a cable or what ever comes into your mind.

If the simple solution you have been suggested to try do not work, try to contact your local Apple care/assistance/support center. Mac mini is considered vintage by Apple, so they won't repair it, but some of the staff might look at it privately or might suggest some former staff now working self-employed. At least I had success here and got the DC power board of my PowerBook replaced locally for 30 Euro and absolutely no shipping costs... This is the good side of relying on widespread hardware. I hope you can find a similar solution if you cannot get the unit working again yourself.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

I hope you work it out. This is the one thing I dont like about MorphOS now being tied to the hardware. If it dies its hard to get a replacement without proving it 100% from what I hear.

My Powermac G4 is acting up and randomly shutting down. I want a G5 but am not sure which one would work as well as the G4. Im just hoping its also a PSU issue an ordered one.

    Yooo,

Now that I think about it, i could of sworn my mac mini did the same thing. Where you would go to shut down, but the next time you would go to hit the power button it did nothing. Just acted as if it the thing died out. I believe I ended up taking it apart and taking out the cd rom drive. For some reason the CD drive took a crap and would prevent the damn thing from starting up... Either way, hope you get it sorted out.

I would of sent you a free 1.5ghz Mac mini logic board but all my stuff is in Nevada and no way of getting to it anytime soon.

Let us know if you find anything out.

Thanks very much for your suggestions!
I tried overriding the power button as well as removing the CD drive ... and finally removing the HDD, too but these didn't seem to have any effect.

Well, I'll just keep this for spare parts and start looking for another 1.5GHz mac mini...
