I'm curious, why is it that some paint programs always produce graphical garbage on the screen and do not display correctly under MorphOS?

PPaint causes my Efika's CPU to max out and never loads. (I guess that don't count as graphical corruption). And Photogenics always has artifacts in the back ground, plus everything I draw does not display correctly either.

I forget which one, it's been so long, but I recall another classic graphic program having issues of this nature as well.

Is any of this avoidable? Are there setting in MorphOS to enhance backwards compatibility that I've over looked? Would using something more classic Amiga friendly such as a VooDoo3 help prevent this? Or is part of MorphOS' backwards compatible strong point in the fact that is used to run on PPC equipped Amigas back in the day?

You can try these methods or combinations thereof:

    1. disabled Enhanced Display
    2. disabled TLSF memory allocation
    3. disabled Trance (i.e. using interpretative emulation)

A common problem and even suspension of programs is too low defaults priority Trance.

I'm not familiar with TLSF memory allocation or Trance settings yet, though I did look at PPaint and it turns out I do not have the file they are talking about.

Strangely enough, I also just tried to fire up FxPaint again...

...worked fine two days ago, but today it maxes out my RAM saying it's loading plug-ins.

    I let it load to it's heart's content while I slept, and it's still loading plug-ins. :)

I dont think disabling TLSF help anything. Neither disabling Trance help much.

Since those are paint packages it could be related to gfx operations and CGX.
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

Yes, I think playing with CGX's forcechunky ENV variable could help.

Where do I go to edit all of this?

I downloaded a different copy of PPaint, one with the config file I was missing. All is well now, disabling "15kHz Video" seemed to help PPaint from going to the back when launched also.

I partially got ImageFX working for a change, I have to work out a few more bugs, but it's finally starting to look promising too!
