    I just fired up a 2.3 GHz PCI-E G5 I bought a couple weeks ago.
    Nice! Really quiet and almost as fast as the older AGP 2.7 GHz model.
    And no water.
    This would lead me to believe the PCI-E 2.5 models will outperform the 2.7 AGP models.

    No all I need now is support (and something to do with an extra core, or three if I upgrade to a Quad).

    We have a nice upgrade to look forward to.

    Is this even on the roadmap? I've got a Quad 2.5 with a Radeon X1900 PCIe card I'd love to have MorphOS on it, but I'm not holding my breath.

    No water ? Your sure ?

    Cos sofar I've been under the impression that all PCI-E G5 were liquid cooled....

    Yep, no water and quieter than my Opteron based Sun system (although since that sounds like a small jet engine...).

    These things are nice, but heavy (55 pound computers? man that is extreme).

    I can only find a "PCI-X" 2.3 model here..

    Why is your "PCI-E" not on that list?

    Oh, yours is this one I guess..

    Didn't pay attention you never said it's running MOS, my bad.

    It is under dual core 2.3.

    What I didn't expect was significantly improved performance.

    @Kronos

    Go ahead :D

    @Jim

    Sounds interesting.. water cooled ones scare the shit out of me.. can get one pretty cheap but no f@#$ way I am going to repair that myself. Would be willing to sacrifice a bit of speed/performance and sleep well at night I guess.. ahh decisions decisions..

    Well the AGP/PCI-X 2.3GHz Dual-CPU is also aircooled and supported right now.

    Jim's claim is that the 2.3GHz PCIe is " almost as fast as the older AGP 2.7 GHz model" but that could be said bout the AGP/PCI-X version.

    Really depends on what bench was used and what variables might have played a role here.

    Assuming it was done under OSX, how much RAM in each G5 ? HD, what size, kind, age and level of fragmentation ? What GFX-card ?

    Kronos has a valid point, the AGP model is supported right now.
    And there is no guessing when PCI-e models will be supported.
    I was just offered this for $100 and it had 4GBs of memory so I snapped it up.
    That and I had a Radeon X1900GT video card on hand, so why not?

    And when I posted the pointer, Kronos must have noted it right before me. it wasn't there when I read the message.
