So I'm trying to make the most out of my Efika. While I do regret buying this board because of the audio issues. I am at least enjoying it's uses as a fast home for my classic Amiga apps that do not require audio.

I have considered selling it, case, MorphOS, and all, but I know I would be out money. So I'm wondering, is it possible to use a 2 drive IDE ribbon, as well as a PCI riser that will allow me to not only use my GFX card but also a Sound Blaster 16?

No clue about the raiser pci, but a second ide is not working.

What is wrong with the efikas sound? Works fine here? It even privides an optical out.

My audio stutters on nearly everything, MP3's, ScummVM, Digibooster classic, you name it, it stutters.
The only thing I run that does not stutter is Quake 2 for some reason. And all this is with a fresh install of MorphOS.

Do you have the audio fixed firmware?

I use the in that thread suggested Efika Hifi Stereo++ which fixed quite something (some really nasty crackling). And at least with MPlayer the sound quality is okay to a limited extend now. I.e. I listen to some radio streams with MPlayer on the Efika which is pretty fine. But I have issues with replaying files using mplayer (that I don't have on my other machines while the very same mplayer is used). Using other players (Songplayer, Jukebox) doesn't yield a satisfactoring audio experience on the Efika. It's really a pity.

Well the strangest thing is happening...

First and foremost, I did have the Firmware up to date.
Secondly, I have a 40Gb IDE drive I wanted to use in my Efika, so while I was at it I installed it and began to do the installation for MorphOS. Though, not matter if I try to install the ISO from the USB stick, or format the drive and copy the ISO there first, the system always locks up at about 20% of the installation. Looks like I need to tear it apart and put my CF card back in.

Now that I have things up and running, it would seem that the audio issues are random. Upon first boot the audio is "usually" fine, but then after running a few audio based programs or games it starts to sound flat, crackly, plays too fast, or cuts off quick, which leads me to have to reboot. Strange...

I can confirm this behavior - but it does not occur very often...... It mainly happens after/during running games or demos and simultaniosly using keyboard or mouse......it comes along with a short "sleep" of USB!
I think it depends to these programms - maybe they initialize/release AHI-device not correct, or come in conflict with Poseidon(?), or something else, because it never happens when running KAYA, Aminetplayer or HD-Record.....
    Peg2, 3xPowerMac G5, 2xPowerbookG4, 2x MacMiniG4, Efika (again), A3000T and life is never boring.....

USB support on MorphOS is buggy. Connect a USB flash/disk/optical drive with keyboard for USB 2.0 Hub. It helped me. By USB 2.0 Hub never once hung up on copying. Discovered this solution recently.

Unfortunately, on the USB (usbscsi.device) does not manage to rip audio files from CDDA to disk read error pops up, this same problem also on the Mac Mini.

Maybe run game SDL where the music is mono, music in mono no crackles.

After reset, you always have sound?

There also problem with of random channel swapping on my Efika, you have it?

Connect the audio on Line In Efika (no crackles), only AHI ==> Wave Output crackles and random channel swapping.

Actually... I think I'm going to just loose a buck and sell this puppy on Ebay or Amibay. The experience has been lackluster. I should have just went with a tower from the get go.

Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't sure if those were statements, guesses, or questions. Sure I'll set AHI to MONO for a while and see how that goes.

What was the bit about "line in"? I thought MorphOS didn't support the input port.

Also I'm not sure about the channel swapping. I've not noticed with any of my song files.

I can not change the audio settings to MONO in AHI aka Audio.

Also I forgot to tell you, but I always use a powered USB hub with my Efika.

EDIT: My audio channels just swapped while listening to an MP3. I was playing Quake II, then after that loaded up Jukebox and low and behold, the sounds is coming out the opposite speakers than usual.

As in the game is the music mono (eg Fortis) do no need to adjust on AHI mono.

The Efika on MorphOS supports all ports, enter in the Mixer.

Well, but hear once crackling sound in the right channel, and another time in the left channel?

Apparently to depend on the USB Hub. On the USB 1.0/1.1 Hub suspension while reading/copying. Without Hub also have suspension. With USB 2.0 Hub Tracer (without power) no problem with disk and keyboard at the same time (Mouse connected directly to the USB Efika).

Jukebox is not possible exactly to verify audio. Use SongPlayer153.lha settings for the Efika are in the archive and attached a better mpega.library PPC with Xing VBR tag support.
