I just found out that I could install Morphos on my iBook only to be disappointed when I got just a grey screen on boot. I presume this is the issue that will be fixed with version 3.3?

By the way, is audio supported on iBook g4?

Sure have sound and no boot issues on my iBook 12" 1.33GHz .....

I think Kronos meant "What Model of iBook" also some iBooks only have 256M of internal memory which may not be enough for a MorphOS install.

1. It's the booting where it hangs for him, not the installation he can't even start.
2. From personal experience I can tell that at least up until MorphOS 2.3, booting and installing with 256 MiB RAM (Pegasos I) went fine.
3. MorphOS 3.2 still boots and installs fine on the Efika 5200B, which has only 128 MiB RAM.

When it starts booting from the CD, I get a grey screen with this text:

Nothing happens after that, it just hangs like that.

Some information about this iBook:

Processor: 1.2Ghz PowerPC G4
Memory: 1.25 GB

Help is much appreciated I was really hoping to get MOS running on this :(

This pretty much sounds like the issue we identified after release of MorphOS 3.2 and is hopefully fixed for all Ibook setups in MorphOS 3.3.

Oh ok, at least not all is lost then. If you want me to test on my iBook with an updated version of MorphOS let me know :)

By the way, if it helps it seems to be model A1054.

Does this mean that the 12" models doesn't work yet? It's exactly one of those I'm looking for.

In fact we received various registrations for iBooks with PowerBook6,7 and PowerBook6,3 IDs. It seems that it's basically the models with PowerBook6,5 ID which are affected. It is definitely not related to 12" models, I use a 12" 1,33GHz model (PowerBook6,7) myself.

I just got my Ibook, and it works! I inserted the install CD on my external CD-reader and plugged it in to both the existing USB-plugs (the CD-player don't have external power cord), but when I try to choose the CD it doesn't show up. Only the HDD.

I know some Ibooks doesn't work with 3.2 but I have no idea how it manifests itself.

Is this because 3.2 doesn't work with my Ibook, or is it because the USB are too weak to power my CD-player? I use the same player on my ZG5 and it got enough power to make it work with just one USB plugged in.

Are there other options for me to try out as well?

No PPC Apple supports booting from USB without some OF-trickery.

Booting from FireWire (other Mac in Target-Mode or HD) does work, but since there is no FW-driver in the MorphOS boot.img it will get stuck after loading the kernel (well you could get it to boot the rest from a USB-stick at that time).

Any specific reason why you didn't use the internal CD-drive ?

Silly me. I actually didn't notice the CD-player. I though it didn't have any.

OK, I shrugged off my sense of humiliation and tried that. This time the CD appeared and I could boot it.

Buuut, I only got this immediately:

I guessed that much, but wanted confirmation. But it's a relief to know that this problem is identified and fixed with 3.3.

I don't think that will work at all. The only really reliable way of installing is to burn the ISO to a CD, boot the computer while holding in Alt (or C), choose the CD in the boot menu and boot. Then you just need to follow the instructions. Unless there is some issue with the computer itself this should work fine.

Optical drive is the easiest way, but If you can't get the optical drive working...
