I can't say if this could help but upgrading 3.2 on Pegasos made the same effect. I solved typing "boot cd boot.img" in open firmware. Maybe it's possible to do the same thing in Mac open firmware, typing f.e. "boot/pci/cd boot.img". Answers welcome =)

thread someone else had problems with installation and this is one seems to be an easy solution:
