Any support for iMac G5 with the ATI video card?
Would like to get one of these rather than the powerbook G4.
The monitor is 20" which is easier on the eyes.
    Mac G5 ISight 21" 2.5 gb of ram 233gb hd matshita dvd-r uj-846
    Powerbook G4 1.67ghz 2GB, ATI 9700M Pro 128mb
1TB hd, DL-DVD Burner, Netgear pcmcia wireless card.

One morphos developer posted pictues of Imac's as a proof of concept a few years ago, so i would assume its atleast possible.

The powerbook is ok, but i dont use it much because laptop keyboards is
crap, so I use mostly the minimac, but the 64mb gfx mem is annoying when OWB'ing too much

I believe Frank has an iMac, and he and Mark have worked together in the past.
    So future support seems likely.

    ok,

    This geit.de site.
Is this an official release party for 3.2?
I am on the verge of buying another 2 powerbooks.
I can buy just one and get an iMac G5 if this is for certain.

I think this iMac G5 support has been on the pictures teasers since ages or not?

Anyway is their any SPECIFIC model that has been announced to be supported?

Shall we expect this on the 3.2 release?

I know both are big questions but I am hoping at least for some info :)

    Thanks!

Yes, it has. For more than 2 years actually:

I'm not aware of any announcement regarding iMac G5 support. However, the teasing pictures above show this model:

So if you're interested in MorphOS you're welcome. Beside Pegasos systems we expect also Mac mini, PowerMac, iBooks, PowerMac G5, iMac G5 and of course Efikas."

No, this definitely is no hint on forthcoming iMacG5 support within MorphOS ...

Although the chances of iMacG5 support are better than ever with the MorphOS improvements that have been done in context of the introduction of PowerMac7,3 compatibility, personally I'm still not convinced to expand support to each and every machine that can't hide behind a tree quick enough to avoid getting supported by MorphOS just because we can ....
So let's see how well received the current G5 support is in the next few weeks and then there is a slim chance of supporting devices like iMacG5 or other G5 models ....
MorphOS definitely is in no need for more PPC hardware options IMHO - there are plenty of options now, albeit "used" ones.

Thanks for responding. Btw, what does your statement mean for Sam460ex support?

The need for iMac support is not for the G5 cpu, its for the very portable LCD.
Its almost as good as a laptop, but with a 21" screen.

This statement is completely unrelated to the announced Sam460ex support.

I am glad to read that at least one member of the MorphOS Dev. Team agrees with my thinking that we now have more than enough different and excellent hardware choices for running MorphOS3.2 on, and I hope that they will spend the next several months, if not a couple of years, perfecting MorphOS3.x on the already supported computer models. Hopefully these extremely talented programmers will now also turn their attention toward creating, or porting more good software to run on MorphOS3.x, in addition to adding what ever essential new features are on their list of goals for MorphOS, while they continue to eliminate any bugs that are found in the current release.

MorphOS3.2 is a significant step forward for MorphOS and the addition of G5 support opens up a few possibilities that were not available to us with the fastest supported G4 systems (though I have not yet confirmed this for myself).

I think MorphOS3.2 is a great operating system, when we consider the limited resources available to create it, and the inherent limitations that came from it's Amiga roots.

Thanks to every member of the MorphOS Dev. Team. With each new release of MorphOS, you confirm that I made the right choice when I decided to make MorphOS my first and primary Next Gen. Amiga operating system.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a second hand computer recycler, or pawn shop, or thrift store, that has one of the G5 iMac models you want to test and ask them to let you test out the software you want to run on it. Just don't tell them that you are installing a second operating system, as that would probably freak them out and get you an answer of "NO". Then insert a pre-burned MorphOS3.2 installation CD and see if it will boot from it. If it boots from the CD, then there might be a chance that it will accept the installation of MorphOS3.2, but I wouldn't get my hopes up very high, as usually each release of MorphOS will only boot on and install on only the supported models that are listed by the MorphOS Dev. Team.
