Lubuntu is a light-weight version of Ubuntu with LXDE instead of GNOME. There are releases of both Ubuntu and Lubuntu for PowerPC. It seems that currently there's indeed only the
server image of Ubuntu 12.10 available for PowerPC, while there're both
the server and the desktop images of Lubuntu 12.10 available for PowerPC.
