    Hi,

Ok, finally got my PB today but I can`t install MOS on it because despite burning 5 (yes 5) cds on OSX which is already on it obviously, they never boot when I hold C (PB just ignores them) and they don`t appear in the boot menu either.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

Assuming the burned cds are fine, it seems the drive is dead.

Did you try to boot some other disc? OSX or PPC linux?

If you place the discs into a PC or other system, did the CD contain multiple files or just a single one?

Well, I burnt the cd on the PB itself and it appeared to contain all the usual MOS files. I can try burning it on a PC but that`s a right pain because I have no optical drive of any kind in my PC.

Well, If you can read and burn the CD it should be fine.

try reboot and hold down "alt option" + left "apple key" + "o" and "f"
and in the openfirmware promt try : boot cd:,\\boot.img

you can also try unplugging your usb mouse while trying, both from openfirmware and holding the c key

Do they appear on OSX? Assuming that pb still has an OSX, just in case.

Anyway, it might be easier boot from USB memory stick instead.

Hmm, the OF method gives me `can`t open device or file`
Maybe the cd is no good then.

When I do the OF method, I do hear the cd drive spin just for a second so maybe it`s broken but how can that be if it works in OSX??

Sorry for all the multiple postings...

then I would try what itix suggested, boot from usb flash drive, from osx you can try using the dd command explained here :

    http://osxdaily.com/2012/03/13/burn-an-iso-image-from-the-command-line/

just use the usb drive as destination instead

this will 'mirror' the mos3.1 iso to your flash drive, then boot from
    openfirmware with :

    boot usb1/disk@1:,\\boot.img

    or

    boot usb0/disk@1:,\\boot.img

depending what usbport your flashdrive is inserted (usb1 is left port on my powerbook, usb0 is right)

    @ cato:

Oh dear, an OSX link concerning booting MorphOS? I think not. I posted a proper and easy way to boot from USB on the morphos ml some time ago, so let me paste this here too:

    1) Get a FAT32 formatted USB stick, best if you format it under the OS of
    your choice

    2) Get a MorphOS 3.1 iso and copy it to the stick. Mount the iso file
(easy on OSX, MorphOS, and Linux, under Windows - use google, there's a free
utility from Microsoft that does that) and copy the boot.img file from
mac_ppc32 directory on the iso to the USB stick

    3) Plug the stick into your Mac, power the Mac on and get into OF (Cmd + Alt
+ O + F). Make sure to plug it directly into onboard USB, don't use hubs,
etc, this simplifies step 4. Make sure you do NOT have any other USB
disks/sticks plugged in, you'll only waste time trying to boot from the
    wrong device.

    4) Find out the USB path in of to your stick!
    type:

    dev .aliases properties

This will give you a list of root USB devices (hubs) found. Usually they're
    named usb0, usb1, ...

    type:

    dev usb0 ls
    dev usb1 ls ...

until you see something like disk@1 in the list - you've got your path now!

    5) Boot MorphOS 3.1

type (assuming the disk is at usb0 and is named disk@1):

    boot usb0/disk@1:,\boot.img bi umsd0:mos.iso

You should see the boot logo in a few seconds. If nothing happens after
loading, try replugging the usb stick or try a different stick.

Perhaps a corrupted download? Check the md5 of the downloaded ISO against the md5 on the MorphOS download page.

Well not only that but OF itself is also worthless. Cryptic bootcommands.. whatever happened to "press key x to see bootmenu".

    Whoops, sorry. It's Code:
    dev aliases .properties
. And yes, Apple OF does suck.

I don't know about the Powerbook, but my Quicksilver 2002 PowerMac is usually finicky about booting from CD. What I have to do is reset the PRAM.

Hold COMMAND-OPTION-P-R on boot and hold the keys until the computer reboot and you (probably) hear the Apple tone a 2nd time. Let go of these keys and press/hold the C key.
