I'm looking to setup a portable MorphOS development system in a few months. Which PowerBook G4 is the best one to get for MorphOS 3.0 please?

1.67 GHz with 128MB of VRAM.

    Hi Bill,

You might want ot check out Krashan's Guide to buying a Powerbook for MorphOS.
Also I believe the 1.67GHz only comes in 15" and 17" versions, although not all 15"/17" Powerbooks are 1.67GHz, so be wary of relying on screen size as a guide. Check the guide.

You've credited wrong person. I've only translated it to Polish, the Guide has been written by Jacek Piszczek :-).

Execept of Jaca's guide there is also my article, listing all currently supported models by Apple model numbers, screen resolutions and processor clock. It is in Polish, but English translation by Google is not that bad. Scroll to "PowerBook" section.

If you just look for biggest screen and fastest CPU, go for PowerBook 5,9 A1139 model, having 17" 1680 x 1050 display and 1.67 GHz processor.

Umm... Yeah, right. I especially enjoy "Jacek Piszczek" translated to "Squeaky Jack" :-D

There's no disadvantage in using MorphOS 3.1, really ;-)

Make sure u want laptop 15" and not lapdesktop 17" :)

@ll This laptop 17" and resolution 1680x1050 work fine? 24bit colors screen? Radeon9200 can gona make it? :) Its not to "heavy" resolution like for MOS3.1? PB will work "fast"?

I'm not sure I understand this English (is it?) phrase but in case you want to imply that this PowerBook has a Radeon 9200 let me tell you it's Radeon 9700.

    > Its not to "heavy" resolution like for MOS3.1? PB will work "fast"?

I run this same resolution (1680x1050) on my Mac mini with a meager 64 MiB VRAM Radeon 9200 fine, so you can be sure it will work even better with 128 MiB VRAM Radeon 9700.

That, or the "almost similar spec" 15" model with 1440x960 display. Which ever you prefer more, the portability or screen resolution. I chose the first.

Also remember that there's no 3D support yet, which for me means I cannot do any OpenGL development on it...

Should be coming in the future though.

    -EDIT-
Also using an external monitor with the DVI connector isn't supported yet, so for now, you are stuck with whatever resolution the built-in panel has.
