Finally! I am getting a 1.8Ghz CPU upgrade!

My last eBay purchase was "lost in the mail" and I have been broke as a joke, so the 800Mhz stock CPU was left in place. I've scored THIS off eBay and god willing it will actually arrive by this weekend :-)

I think $100 shipped is a damn good deal! I used eBay's "Save Search" feature to notify me when a new listing with certain search key words are available. IMO this is a no brainier. Now if only MorphOS 3.0 would be released...

Sorry if I am bragging, I just can't wait. I have been using MorphOS pretty heavily lately and the speed boost is going to be nice.

Third party acceleror cards (like Sonnet) are desapointing for the memory test. Most of the others benchmarks are good, btw.

Here a recent review of the Encore MDX G4 Duet card :

It can't get much faster than that, and $100 is nothing. Congratulations! :-) :pint:
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    Great buy.
And when I had a 1.8 7447 accelerator in my Quicksilver my memory tests significantly improved.
I have seen some disappointing memory tests on 7448s under MorphOS.

It can't be any worse than the memory tests with my stock 800Mhz CPU! The memory tests are so bad with the Quicksilver 2002, I wonder if it is being reported accurately.

Nothing wrong with my Sonnet 1.8Ghz what memory speed is concerned ...

I know what you mean Red.
I had a "Taiwanese" 933MHz cpu card before I bought my 7447 and then my OWC 7455.
The memory benches are dreadful on stock Quicksilvers.
What I don't understand is why accelerators improve those test results so much.

I got it! What a beauty, original box and manual etc! It worked all day yesterday at the stock 1.8Ghz, so I am trying it overclocked to 2Ghz today. So far, so good :-D

Ah, don't you just love it?

I just got a great deal on a dual 1.42 MDD, so I'll be moving to that soon with the object of overclocking that. Along with my current move to an R360 video card (anxiously awaiting 3D drivers) I think we should have enough performance for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to make comparison benchmarks, but we only seem to have the most basic tools for this.

That would be a good project (a benchmark suite for MorphOS).

Have you tried AmigaMARK? It's MorphOS-native and benches computational speed, memory/cache throughput and drive speed (both raw and through filesystem). What's missing in there is graphics (2D and 3D) benchmarking, though.

Edit: analogkid beat me to it.

    Yeah! That would do nicely.
    Thanks guys!
Now I can run a bench on my Quicksilver, then when I move to the MDD re-test it (and when I overclock I can test further).
    Perfect!

So far this appears to be rock-solid stable at 2.0Ghz. I've thrown everything at it, running max CPU load for extended periods of time. No problem! Should I push my luck and try above 2.0Ghz? Anyone have experience OC'ing a 7448?
