True, without an expansion slot, you're not using something like this.
Also, while there is a Linux driver, you'd need other software to support the driver (ie media players).

I looked at these back when I was looking at Toshiba Spurs Engine cards (personally I liked the Spurs based cards better).

If the documentation was there to do it, GPU assisted video decoding would be more practical.

Would be a very beneficial addition to MorphOS, if it could be utilized. If a driver could be ported from the Linux driver, and if software player(s) could be written to use this device, having such video content playback, including ability to view Blu-Ray movies, available on all G4 PowerMac systems supported by MorphOS would be great. But, to be honest, most people that want to watch Blu-Ray movies just go buy a cheap Blu-Ray player and connect it to their TV.

Not sure if implementing this would be any easier than trying to write support for GPU acceleration instead?

Now that I think about it, I never really used my computer to watch a DVD or a BluRay ... but I suppose it would be good for high-definition youtube and as such ?

I've never watched a BluRay disc on a computer, but all my computers have DVD drives.

Now that VLC supports BluRays I may have to consider a BluRay drive.

vlc 2.0 support uncrypted bluray only atm, so it's almost useless
hardware decoding could be useful for youtube or mkv hd files, or eventually for hd cam.

Thanks, I can put off that purchase.
So far, no BluRay playback software has enticed me to consider using my computer instead of my BluRay player. VLC might have done it.

I bought "AnyDVD" for my Windows box, and it decrypts all DVD's and BluRay discs, so VLC can play them. It has been many months since I have turned it on, so I am forgetting some things, but IIRC, I use MediaPlayer with AnyDVD to play my DVD's and BluRay disc's on my computer. The only advantage it currently has is that my Windows PC has a better sound system and speakers than I have for my regular DVD/BluRay player, but other than that, it is much easier and more convenient to just pop a dics into the DVD/BluRay player to watch something. Using a computer is not that practical, IMO.
