I seem to be having difficulty setting up printing correctly using netprinter.device. I've previously had this working, so am not 100% sure where I have since gone wrong.
Starting from a vanilla MorphOS2.7 installation, I have installed netprinter from the contributions drawer in the ISO using the supplied install script. netprinter.device (in lower case) is in my sys:devs/ drawer, and everything else seemed to copy across correctly.
I then went via the menus to settings>system>printer. There were no entries in the configuration box (the installation guide in the netprinter readme did not mention that I need to create one, so I did not), however I was able to select 'device' (in the 'port' settings) and enter netprinter.device (also in lower case) in the 'device' field (ensuring that I pressed 'enter' afterwards). Unit 0 was already selected. I then hit 'save'.
Back to the prefs panel.
I then selected netprinter from the prefs panel, selected LPR as the protocol, and input the IP address of my networked printer (192.168.0.100 - on the same network as my MorphOS box (192.168.0.102)) and hit save.
Back to the prefs panel.
I then attempted to print a text document from Multiview. This resulted in a dialog box "could not find printer".
If I go back into the 'Printer' preferences at this point without closing the 'Preferences' panel, my entries are still present.
If, however, I close the preferences panel, then go back to settings>system>Printer my entries have disappeared.
I also tried creating a configuration (I named it 'default' and selected HP Laserjet 4 as the driver) and then did the same as described above.
There was no change: the configuration entry remained present, but my entry in the 'device' field disappeared if I closed the prefs panel.
Yes, I have ensured that I have pressed 'enter' after entering the text.
I have not installed Ghostscript as there is no mention in the netprinter.device installation guide that I should do this, and I don't want complicate things further unless necessary.
Any help/ideas at this point would be appreciated, as I'm at a loss as to why my settings are not remaining present in the printer preferences page.
EDIT:
The IP of my printer is 192.168.0.100 - I am able to navigate to the web interface using this ip address from OWB on the same machine, ruling out network problems.
The printer is a Kyocera Mita FS-1010KX, which supports PCL emulation over the network interface, and is confirmed working with other machines (and with MorphOS, I just can't remember what I was doing differently!).
