I got my Peg II in, and system wouldn't boot with the 2 1GB DDR modules I had installed, I used the 512MB that it came with, and it boots fine. I checked the online specs from the vendor, should be OK. Any ideas?

What revision is your board? There's rev 2B1 through 2B5, but only 2B5 really has the chance to work reliably with both slots populated. See that thread for reference:

What about removing one of your two 1 GiB modules? Does it boot then?

Nope. Won't boot with any of the 1GB modules installed. With the 512 it boots just fine. I'm running a 2B1 board.

Remember that with each change of the RAM config you should start the Peg2 with empty RAM slots before (30 seconds duration should suffice), which tells the Peg2 to calibrate to the new module's properties after the change.

    > I'm running a 2B1 board.

This means you can forget about the second slot.

I bought a different brand, both slots do work, though I only see 1.5Gb under MorphOS.. going to send back the incompatible RAM.

That would be news for anything besides rev 2B5. Mind you that I said "reliably", so if you're going to experience strange hang-ups with extensive memory use you know the reason.

    > I only see 1.5Gb under MorphOS.

That's the maximum MorphOS can see.

Thanks for the warning. It's a nice machine. VERY FAST compared to my old Efika ;-)

I did get random lockups with 2GB installed. Can I add the 512MB and be stable, or is it just an issue with both slots being occupied? Can I get a 2GB module then and have it installed in one slot and be fine?

    Alright, I'm not surprised.

What do you mean "add"? Replacing one of the two 1 GiB modules with the 512 MiB module? If that's what you mean that's not likely to work as it's indeed the issue with both slots being populated.

    > Can I get a 2GB module then and have it installed in one slot and be fine?

There's only one person I know of who tried this so far but it didn't work out for him. However, it's not known to me whether it's a general problem with 2 GiB modules in the Peg2 or it was down to the specific module he used so that others might actually work. You can read more on that in the thread I linked to before:

AFAIK 2gb module will NOT work in Peg2.

I know Sven Luther had a Peg2 running 2gh of Ram on Debian. So if it works there will show 1.5 morphos with no glitches.

I currently have a 1 gb Nanya stick. I should try to get another one and see what happens..

So I guess he used a revision 2B5 board for that, right?

    What's your board revision?

Just so you know.. or you should know as i've posted about this before. There were many versions of OF that were never released.. so none of your exotic quoting skills will do you any good.

I haven't ever seen you posting Sven Luther's Peg2 board revision, sorry. Do you have a link to that? And I'm almost sure you already posted your Peg2 board revision somewhere on MorphZone already, but I can't remember that, so could you just recur that here or post a link?

    > none of your exotic quoting skills will do you any good.

Obviously, hence I'm hoping for *your* quoting skills to do me some good.

Interesting, never heard of that Peg2 revision number.

So far there's not one single link in any reply I gave to you in this thread, so that's a blatant lie. And coming from you that's not odd at all.

    Pity.

Then why do you do it? You claim in this thread that I replied to your posting "with links to other posts", which is a lie.

    > you fcking pathetic tosser.

You know very well that your foul language makes no impact on me.
