I posted this question in my headless eMac thread, but I'm not sure everyone has read far enough to get to this question, so I'm going to post it here.

How in the world do I change my default monitor under MONITORS?

I can change it, save it, reboot, and it defaults back to iMac which sucks because then all my screen modes but the default one will NOT work. I.E. if I want to play a game like Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Giana's Return in full screen at 800x600. I will loose my display because of the frequency modes.

If I could but find my monitor in the list (it's not there), change it, and get it to actually stay on the new monitor I chose, I might be able to get somewhere, but as it stands. I'm stuck in one screen mode which is a bit to much for the humble, and resource limited eMac.

Because MorphOS won't detect your monitor (it still detects the eMac monitor), what you'll have to do is manually edit the eMac monitor configuration to match your monitor. Once you've done this, when MorphOS detects the eMac monitor on boot it will use the settings you've entered instead of the default eMac ones.

What do you mean by "Manually EDIT". Are you talking about editing a TEXT file, or are you talking about going through the same motions I'm having troubles with. I.E. going into the MONITORS section in the system settings, changing monitors, then saving?

Driver support for the mini-vga port on the eMac would save me soooooo much hassel.

It should not overload your settings once you save, but in case that somehow fails you can just rename ddc.library. That'll disable autoconfiguration.

As MorphOS isn't going to be able to use DDC to detect your monitor modes, to get best results you're going to need to enter them in manually. Go into System Preferences->Monitors and select the iMac monitor. Then hit 'edit', now change all the entries to match the spec of the monitor you are using. Now 'save' and reboot. Now when MorphOS starts it'll use your settings not the default.

This to me seems the easiest way around your problem but I think there are others.

I'll go home and tinker some more...

BTW, is this ddc.library. used for anything else?

Got it! Thank you for your help in IRC. I looked up the frequencies on my sdm-hs73 monitor and that set things straight! :)
