    Salut,

I had same problem with my Pegasos and my MDD. Dhcp won't work, so if you have ever try manual configuration, have you think to fill in DNS configuration ? It's the only way that worked for me.

Check which network chip your PowerMac has. Apparently some of the oldest versions use a totally different chip than all other ones. Hard to tell whether it's going to be supported.

    I just added RTL_8139D ... I didn't see it had to be 8139C.

Seems to show up fine in the network preferences but when I put the UTP cable in it does nothing, while it does work when in the Sungem device.

    @Oepabakkes

I have successfully used an RTL8139D in my Powermac G4. I first had to disable the internal NIC in network preferences before it would work however. Hope this is of some help.

how to disable the internal NIC, just by deselecting "eth0" in the network preferences ? I acutally did that but still the realtek didn't do anything and when I replaced the cable in Sungem it still had connection. Maybe it needs a reboot ?

I deselected the sungem device, saved, rebooted and the RTL card then worked ok.

Well hopefully when you open System Preferences -> Network it should be listed under the Network Interfaces tab. If you've only got loopback, your NIC isn't detected/supported by morphos. If it is listed then to disable it uncheck the box next to eth0 and save. If you have an RTL8139 installed that should be listed undeneath as eth1 and will be used instead after a reboot.

I got it working .... still the same problem. Because I am to far from my router, I do internetsharing with windowsXP. Everytime I reboot, I have no internet but I do have network. As soon as I run the internet sharing wizard on XP I also have internet on my MorphOS machine. Not sure why it does that.

Better get me a second hand ethernet to wifi adapter, so I it doesn't have to rely on the PC.

I put an special archive under http://www.cybergraphx.de/sungem_ctrl_20101014.lha
It is some (shell) tool to modify/dump sungem ethernet controller settings at runtime. Maybe some of you who run into trouble find a way to improve network speed that way. Please send output of "sungem_ctrl dump dumpreg" to the email address in the header in any case. It probably helps to identify the problem and provide a proper fix in the future. Please add some info about your network setup as well.

    E.g. you can do

    sungem_ctrl mii 100 hd

to reconfigure the network to mii mode , 100mbit, half duplex

while mii is used for 10/100mbit , gmii is required for 1000mbit

There are some options to enable autonegotiation or restart negotiation as well. Maybe you succeed to find some better settings this way. Run it without any arguments to see the possible arguments.

I will test it. It seems that after all the PCI realtek does work without the need for fiddling with the internet sharing wizard on my pc. So whatever happens, it has something to do with Sungem.device.

My internet seems to be a bit slow with Sungem.device so I am thinking of purchasing a PCI Network card. Will a 8139D do, or it *HAS* to be a 8139C?

    Cheers.

Considering that at least two different people in this very thread confirmed that the 8139D works for them I think the answer should be clear ;-)

Also an older 8029 with coax and utp was recognized in my Powermac (as a 8139). I didn't really test it, but if you have one around it sure is worth to try.

    OK point taken :)

I grabbed an SB Live too as sound on my machine is too low for some reason.

Today I Installed mos 2.6 on my free powermac 3.1 AGP.

When I started the installation morphos did not find my network card.
I checked in osx and my powermac have a DEC chip 21143, who ar not supported by morphos.

But I did see that under devs/netowrk drivers that mos support RTL 8139 chip.

After a quick look in my sparepart drawer I find a unknown manfufature ethernet card with RTL 8139c chip.

I installed the card and started install.
Morphos did find my card.. nice.. but then the trouble started...
I got so far until it was copying files to my system disk.. then I halt..randomly.. from 40mb copy too 110mb copy...

I removed the card, and installed morphos wihtout it, all files was copy over and morphos was sucssesfully installed.

installed the card again.. and rebootet.
did a check and morph still found my rtl card..
But I could not ping any ipadress. I got link. but no data was transfer true.

Then I saw the option under "expert" too sett the mac adress for the card.
Then I rebootet too osx to find that mac adress my uknown rtl 8139c card have.
    Typed in under network-->exspert->hardware adress.

    Now it work great!! :)

I have network :) and typing this from the powermac.

just for info.. If any others have that problem :)

    Cheers
