I ordered what I thought was a converter for the VGA mini port opn my eMac only to find when it arrived it do not fit. So I found another and this time it did fit, only to find that the display does not get activated by default.

So my question is, does MorphOS allow me to use an LCD panel plugged into this port or not, or can I switch it in a bios setting or something.

Would be nice to use my 1680x1050 monitor with MorphOS.

    Thanks for any help.

You can try to enter the OpenFirmware of launch OSX install CD to see if the adapter is working.

I guess the video output was never tested as noone in the MorphOS Team has an eMac. And because of that noone spend any money on an interface, that isn't needed at all, the driver is set up in best guess mode for this port, then. :)

Feel free to make a bug report using the MorphOS about requester, if the video output is working with OSX / Openfirmware.

Very good question clusteruk. I have my G4 MacMini connected to a 1680x1050 resolution monitor and you will love MorphOS2.x on that monitor, but I worry that you might have a problem with only 32mb of VRAM in the eMac.

Edit: I have the 1.5GHz G4 MacMini with 64mb VRAM.

32MB VRAM is only a problem when using 3D apps in high resolutions. The rest works just fine in traditional (non-enhanced) screenmode.

In Essen, Bad Bramstedt and whereever the MorphOS Team demoed an eMac, the hardware was the same. It was an eMac kindly provided by an user, who was interested in getting a MorphOS port for this machine. That is also the reason only the 1.25 Ghz eMac is official supported and the other version is just in "could work" state.

Using e.g. FullHD resolution on 32MB systems is possible. Of course the enhanced display modes aren't available as they don't make any sense when the system gets slow while transfering data from/to graphics card all the time. Even with 64MB you also should try to disable it for screens it makes no sense like a browser/RDesktop/Textwriter screen. You should also consider making some screens 16 bit. I am using only 16 Bit screens. With those rules I can open 4 screens without reaching the 32 MB limit.

You mean support for eMac came out of a SINGLE USER request!?

The impression I have from the comments of the developers would lead to the conclusion that eMac support was just "low lying fruit".

Since the 1.25 Ghz eMac has so many hardware similarities to the Mac Mini, support was easier to implement than other Mac models.

It definitely was way easier to implement than other Mac models because it has much in common with previously released Mac mini support and it definitely wasn't because a single user requested it ....
