    I hope the opposite is true. The longer they keep shooting themselves in the foot by releasing half-supported under-powered over-priced hardware for OS4 they will only serve to drive people away from OS4 which will increase MorphOS' market share.

    I rather hope that OS4 continues to act as a quarantine for the kind of people that seem to be hypnotised by the 'Am*ga' trademark and the 'one true blabla'. To me, MorphOS and morphzone is like an oasis away from that herd.

    I guess I pissed em off over at amiga.org asking about it. I just got a bit out of shape about the fact a $2800 system doesnt even have full support of the hardware. I still cant for the life of me figure out why they dont use Apple hardware and have a solid base of hardware on easily found machines. Why wouldnt you want to run on a G5 complete system for the price some of them are paying for a single hard drive????

    Because when it was first proposed to Amiga Inc. (McEwen) there was no A-EON, and Acube had not produced the first Sam either.
    Considerations are different now that "they" have 2 h/w developers to consider in regard to how such a move would affect them.
    There is a legal issue as well, but let's not go there.

    A legal issue preventing a port of OS4 to PPC Macs? I have doubts about that.

    I was referring to the proof of concept.

    the posts made by wegster concerning A/V

    Would this prevent a new effort? I have no idea.

    Acill probably wasn't referring to Moana as he spoke about G5 in particular whereas Moana is for G4 (Mac mini).

    Yes, I made my own observations regarding that:

    Yes, indeed. They originally annnounced the core clock as 1.2 to 1.5 GHz but now it seems to be only 1.0 GHz in this chip. Nevertheless, nice to see that LSI is no longer the only company to use PPC47x technology in its chips.

    C9100 and C10000 cores mentioned:

    http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://www.china-core.com/page/CPUh/
    http://www.china-core.com/pic/gif/1458092157.jpg

    C9100:
    - C9000-based
    - extended AltiVec supporting floating point and integer vector floating point arithmetic

    C10000 (in research):
    - 64-bit
    - multithreading
    - AltiVec

    So the C9100 basically means a PPC476FP-derived core with AltiVec. And I wonder whether the C10000 is derived from the e6500 core.

    Is it still possible to get the PPC Axxia chips? Avago bought out LSI and then IIRC they sold the Axxia division to Intel.

    Do you really think Intel is going to vend PPC processors? They have a vested interest in that ISA failing.
    After all, the last generation of video game consoles all used PPC cpus, and now only one does (with two of the major players switching from IBM PPC cpus to X86 based systems).
    Soon now, that last holdout will shift away from PPCs (once the WiiU is replaced).

    So Axxia PPC cpus from Intel?
    Maybe the ARM variants, and for existing customers? Who knows?
    What will they promote and continue to develop?
    Bet it isn't PPC based.

    > Is it still possible to get the PPC Axxia chips?

    I think so, but you may have to be an existing Axxia customer from LSI or Avago times for Intel to meet your purchase request.
    This Intel PCN from February 2015 has some information on pages 3 to 6 on how Intel intends to handle the Axxia business. Pages 7 and 8 contain a list of Avago product codes and the respective new Intel product codes, among them also PPC-based Axxia chips:

    Avago product code --> Intel product code
    M-AXM3506-800A0S0-DB --> JJAM3506800A0S0
    M-AXE3502-400A0S0-DB --> JJAE3502400A0S0
    M-AXM3504-200A0S0-DB --> JJAE3502400A0S0
    M-AXM3504-400A0S0-DB --> JJAE3502400A0S0
    P-AXM3506-600A0S0-DB --> JJAM3506600A0S0
    P-AXM3506-800A0S0-DB --> JJAM3506800A0S0
    S-AXE3502-700A0S0-DB --> JJAE3502700A0S0
    ACP3423B1640-SAC0-DB --> JFACP3423B1640C

    This Intel PCN from March 2015 and this Intel PCN from April 2015 have some more Intel product codes for PPC-based Axxia chips:

    JFACP3421B1640C
    JFACP3421B1640D
    JFACP3440F1640C
    JFACP3442F1640C
    JFACP3448F1640C
    JFACP3423B1640C
    JJAE3502700A0S0
    JJAE3502411A0S0
    JJAE3502413A0S0
    JJAE3502713A0S0
    JJAE3504713A0S0
    JJAE3504714A0S0
    JJAE3506713A0S0
    JJAM3504211A0S0
    JJAM3504413A0S0
    JJAM3506613A0S0
    JJAM3506813A0S0

    What seems missing is the AXM2500/AXE2502 series, which was the last PPC-based Axxia series developed by LSI.

    I don't expect Intel to develop PPC any further but I don't think consoles would have any thing to do with it. The shift in architecture hasn't changed anything for Intel and unless they seriously up their GPU game AMD will have the console vendor market sewn up for the foreseeable future.

    The Intel PCNs I mentioned also list chips from the ARM-based Axxia AXM5500 series. What seems missing is the AXE4500 series, which was the last ARM-based Axxia series developed by LSI.

    Try ordering one?
    Something tells me that is not a quantity they are going to want to talk about. ;)

    Something tells me as the years go by that I am really going to miss Freescale.

    One? That's still got me grinning.

    Personally, if these are some of our choices, Chinese hardware that may never see the light of day or Intel owned PPC designs, we may have a problem.

    Power8/9 seems to have a future, but the PowerPC processor seems to be on life support.

    https://www.arrow.com/en/products/jjam3506813a0s0slkwn/intel

    No stock, unfortunately.

    Of course, one could as well request a quote directly from Intel for thousands of chips. Their answer (if they give one) should at least give away whether or not they sell those chips to new customers.

    Well, they are listed as backordered, maybe they are available.
    Or if Intel is sitting on a stockpile of them, maybe they might be willing to supply them.
