As everyone knows, the Efika is the cheapest way to board the MorphOS 2.0 ship (and the *only* way if you want new hardware instead of second hand). If you are thinking about buying an Efika you *should not delay too long*! The supply of Efikas is limited, is running out and no more are coming!

    Quote:

We don't expect many EFIKA or Open Client units to sell (there are not that many left -- less than 100 worldwide). This opportunity passed at least a year ago. We produced the last EFIKA boards in 2007. We won't be producing them again

Just the right timing for stopping production ... :-D

    That's beginning to look like the A1 / OS4 debacle ...

The MOS developers will always be behind available hardware if this trend continues ... (Efika2 and Efika3 are in the make ...)

Yeah - the Efika has been out for some time now. Just like the A1 users that could only run Linux for 1.5 years before AOS4.0 was released. :)

I really wonder just how many Efika boards are out there to be purchased. I don't think its is quite dire - but I am under the impression that Efika clients via Genesi is fairly limited at this point.

The Efika is just underpowered and limited in capabilities to be of much interest. Better hardware is needed . . . :-)

The efika will be a god buy for morphos once the bugs will be fixed.
For now only a few users reported Mos to run fine on efika. Most of us experience lots of freezing which makes the system unusable.

I just bought my EFIKA, PicoPSU (120W) + power supply, Eagle enclosure (to modify), ATI Radeon AGP 128meg, and installed a 12gig 2.5" hd I had laying around.. $275 is what I have in it. I'll try the time limited demo but wont register because the freezing issue should have been address ASAP. A thread on this site with something official stating they're aware of it, we're working on it.

Just about everyone, myself included, was crying out for a MorphOS release whether it was preliminary or not. Much to our surprise a deadline was announced and, to our further surprise, it was achieved. I'm not about to turn around and say now that 'MorphOS 2 is not good enough'. I'm happy that it's out and it's time to show the devs that we're more than just a community of whingers. MorphOS 2 may still be in a quasi beta stage of development but this is when our registrations / payments can do the most good. Who really thinks, that after all this time and development, the developers are going to take our money and run? I don't. I think they're in it for the long haul - much more so than the rest of the community.

I also happen to believe that there will be a successor to the Efika and that MorphOS will become available for it too. But, for now, there can be no complaints of 'No hardware, no OS - woe is me'. It's time to get interested in the future and to look for application developers & various other projects to support.
PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)

    hmmm you are right

But isnt that the Genesi business plan?

    1. Announce and produce cool new hardware, but only make a small number and dont let anyone know they are for sale..

    2. Sell out the first production of boards somehow and then run the second batch(and not tell anyone) and everyone thinks there are no more boards to buy..

    3. Just when people find out there are boards and begin to purchase Immediately announce a NEW and BETTER Board on the horizon so that nobody buys the boards.

    etc etc in a loop
