    Hi everyone,

I have an unused SB LIVE (SB0220), and wanted to install it on my PegII, but I don't have the slightest idea on how to make it work under MorphOS.

What I found in the internet was not clear enough (for me), can anyone explain to me how to do it?

    Thanks!

just plug the card into a free pci slot, power on the peg, boot into morphos, download livemixer, choose the soundblaster in ahi prefs - and there you go:)

    Get Live Mixer here:

    http://www.tbs-software.com/morgoth/files/livemixer-1.4b.lha

In Audio (AHI) prefs, choose EMU10kx; you might need to download and install AHI 6.0

    ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/arp2/ahi/system/ppc-morphos-ahiusr-6.0.lha

too bad, that there is no software for MorphOS which supports 5.1 multichannel audio :-(

IIRC both Live Mixer 1.4b and latest AHI do support 5.1

    Some little questions...
I've installed AHI 6.0 and audio.device 6.7: when I open the general configuration window/sound (AHI) displays all the different modes. No SB prefs.. Well, I haven't got a SB Live (only a "normal" SB...). Don't blame me.. but is it that the cause? And so: if I install a different sound card (a SB Audigy or similar for example), could I listen 5.1 audio? I would buy one sound card.. But wich? Only a SB Live?
There's no way to listen sounds/music on a normal SB? When I run Debian I can't listen music on SB, dvd sounds... but I can hear system sounds.. :-(
If MOS 2.0 can resolve this little problem, I could wait for... and buy a different card... ;-)

there is no "SB prefs" in ahi, its just the audiomodes list has expanded. you have to look for emu10k modes as mentioned before. if your soundblaster doesnt have the emu10k chip than probably it wont work as far as i know.
and - as i thought - the system itself supports 5.1 audio but theres no software at the moment that support it.
btw livemixer has a prefs for 5.1 audio, you can set the volume of the rear, center and bass. it has some sort of 3D support which i dont know if it works or not.

about linux, i have ubuntu installed, all sound works perfectly on the sblive: mp3s, videos, system sounds, every audio-related stuff. in fact , ubuntu has recognize the sblive at the install i guess, coz i havent got to bother with any prefs and configs - it just worked for the first time. well, it was a bit strange coz the onboard audio was completly ignored as i remember...

    @ sadddam:

yes, I found them! They are 4, named "unit 0.. and the mode you want to use". Only one thing is missing: a SB live...ehm... :-) ..and no: It hasn't the emu10k chip..
I started again Debian: with System sounds and music CD work well (I can listen the sounds on SB). With Video (vmw-mpeg and so on) I only hear sounds if I use the Peg connector... I cannot hear DVD films 'cos they don't start (some kind of authorization is missing :-?). I will check this... Although I prefer see dvd films with Deeviedee.
Mos is much more comfortable anf fast ;-)
    Thanks for explanations!

Maybe you can blacklist the onboard sound in linux or something? This will force use of SB Live. Better to ask @

    http://www.ppczone.org

As far as my exp with SB Live in Peg. I had one installed fro a while to help with MOL emulation but took it out as I found in Morphos the onboard sound chip Bass sounds deeper/better!!

I went to search infos in ppczone, as I've been using Linux for a short time ;-)
I think you're right, about the onboard sound chips: really good quality. That's why I won't buy a SBL... Better wait for 2.0 and take advantage of its new features!
    Thanks!!!!

Yes, for real. It was a while back, maybe i'll try with the sb too. I also have my peg feeding to a Numark mixer. Of course, you want as much bass as possible from the Source without having to gain too much with a mixer!

Do a test with sb live and without and let me know what you think..
