There are some widget-like apps like April, CLONCK, Wetter (www.amigazeux.net) or statine (www.binaryriot.org)

@Robin: I think Commodities and Widgets aren't really comparable, because Commodities can be run in background, without seeing them anywhere on desktop.

would be able to just download widgets for mac and use them :D

Maybe A Bounty is in order :-?

wxwindows is a graphic tool kit. You can use it like SDL, MUI, GTK or the MFC. The cool thing of wxwidgets is that it's basically a wrapper, i.e. a wxwidget app uses the native grapic toolkit of the actual system.
wxwidgets for AOS is not ready (yet).

OSX widgets are written in HTML+CSS+Javascript, with a few extra options (like possibility to run executables). I think some of the widgets could work if we had a working KHTML implementation.

Widgets are not that bad, what i like the most about them is that you have a separate window, you can reach with a Hotkey or one of the edges. Thats a good idea to hide that tools cos you don't need them most of the time.
But i would like to have the choice if they stay on top of Ambient or if they are reachable with a Hotkey like in OS X.
