    Hiya!

I think I don't need to upgrade, but just to be sure...
On boot I see that I have firmware v.1.1 200404051752512
and on bplan site there is up050404 firmware update... so they are the same, only the date ordering is different, right? :-?

    thanks! :-)

well, talking about OF, it is possible to make a "copy" of my current OF to a file, like we do with PCs ? looks like we have OFs around, but not all versions we saw in our signatures are available to download.

    I have the 1.2, too .... :-)

Getting firmware is a real mess. You cannot download the latest fw, just like any other PC company allows you to do ...
Some people get it from somewhere and share it with others ... this really suxx.

There are enough reasons(=bugs) to try updates .. so I'm waiting for the next version... but beside big annoucements and even screenshots, I found no source where to obtain it ...
With this kind of support, Genesi/bplan will have big problems if they would ever try to sell to the industrial sector, as noone is willing to wait years for fw bugfixes ..

I am waiting since 4 years for a bugfixed Firmware upgrade of my Pegasos 1 but it seems nobody cares for their customers.

    @ DJBase

A few years ago there was a replacement plan and you could easily exchange a Peg1 for a Peg2. The Pegasos1 machines were discontinued a LONG time ago. IMO there is no point in supporting them any further, at least in terms of OF.

Yes, great idea, leave customers at their own. So I expect there will also no OF upgrade for Pegasos II. Why bother? They could buy an EFIKA. If thats the policy it was the last time I bought anything from this company.

Wow... I must say that I'm shocked, reading such statements!
It is normal that a machine is dicontinued, and no longer produced, but I expect from every half-professional company that discontinued hardware is still supported by software upgrades!
I can only agree with DJBase. It's a shame. Although I had great respect for the way bplan is dealing with customers, replacing their defect boards for free (this is the way I got my OF update ;).

firmware upgrades were announced more than a year ago, some new firmware was tested more than 2 years ago.
I suppose the new firmwares brought more issues than it solved and got cancelled.

because not all machines have been exchanged (due to lack of time/money etc.)

But, in this case, why would some people blame others for their own failure?

Pardon? Its their own fault because they are not that rich to buy or upgrade to newer hardware? Even if why must have done everyone the upgrade? Is there somewhere an internal timeout that will kill the hardware someday? The Pegasos I may have some issues but makes his job day by day.

Sounds like you're confusing availability with updates .. there are very few companies (I can count them on one hand) that still deliver firmware updates beyond 1 year of the last sold hw revision (there are even some that don't deliver firmware updates ever)...

I'm sure you are all aware that jacaDcaps doesn't work for bPlan, right?

Either way, releasing updates for "ancient" hw means (or should anyway) thouroughly testing it first, and if the userbase has dwindled to next-to-nothing, does it really make sense spending the time&money doing so?

Nice logic to deny support for discontinued hardware. For what kind of hardware should MOS 2.0 then come?

No-one has denied anything (there are no bPlan representatives in this thread), and I fail to see the connection for the latter...

mos 2.0 will support pegasos II (and peg1 me guess) - i thinks thats what he menas.

as i know there are several firmware versions for the pegII around - those who've bought their pegs later have newer fw's than the earlier customers. why cant we download those newer fw's? they seems to works fine.
for example, my peg's fw doesnt support usb keyboard, which is a real pita for me, but the newer fw's are support usb key. i need one.
why cannot the older, unrepaired, original pegII users get them??
i wrote bplan 2 times about this and they didnt even reply...

at least they could give a good, real explanation about this firmware issue...

    Guys

You do of course realize that Bplan is a small company. This isnt H+P here. Their level of support for the Pegasos community is incredible. Lets have some perspective here please. I'm sure all their time and efforts are for the Efika Firmware ATM. As it is, you got MOS for free and it works on legacy Peg1 hardware, so how can you complain?

well, to say truth, i dunno, how small or big bplan is... but i have to say, that i have only the best experience with bplan and their people, especially Thomas Knabel, who let fixed my G4 CPU card and sent it back within 3 weeks to be able to present pegasos2 on our local computer party.

    bplan RULEZ!!!!

    bye, MarK.

Who and where is denying updates? Could you point me to a link? :)

I merely expressed my own oppinion (I'm a Peg1 owner as well).

The connection is support for discontinued hardware in general. When there is a market for MOS 2.0 on this kind of hardware, then there is also a market for further firmware-updates.
