For the nth time i'll say it again... please replace your original CPU/Fan heatsink on your G4 cpu card with a good performance Vantec, Zalman, or whoever VGA cooler. The original G4 cpu fans are cheap and will eventually die on you (as can be seen by all the burnt cpu threads) For $20 you can get a nice quiet and cool looking fan and save you alot of heartache.

Do you have a exact product of zalman that fits?
Or what heatsink size should be use?

    Thanks....
Would be good to have a kind of alarm in it, when it stops working.

Most any standard "VGA cooler/fan" setup will work withe peg CPU card. I'll try to put a pic up of my cpu card with fan in the next few days when I get back to my studio..

As far as an "alarm" the things would be to get some kind of case that has TEMP monitoring (my solution) or purchase some kind of independent solution like a lot of PC modders use.

PS i'm glad ppl are responding to this thread its very important as I feel that the original CPu fans will be reaching "end of life" soon..

    A picture would be nice.
All the solutions I coma across seem so big?
Now fitted is I think the original heatsink and fan which layes in the heatsink.
The heatsink is about 60 by 60 mm and the fan inside it abut 40 by 40 mm.
Will such a big vga cooler not sit in the way off other components?
And does such a vga cooler come with a heatsink as standard?
Not really much experience here with these cooling solutions.
Just want to keep my Peg healthy.

The ZM-NB47J is a perfect fit (and blue!), and coldly recommended (preferably with a large low rpm fan blowing in its direction). ;)

CISC, that one is fanless. Is it safe for a G4 CPU card? I'd love to get one and not worry about the fan ever again.

One of the models that fit:

    Pentagram Freezone NP-40 Cu (/Al)

Cheap, nice, supports a 40x40 fan.

It is NOT recommended to go passive without additional cooling as CISC said in his post. IF you search MZ you will actually see this Zalman heatsink in threads - iirc its atually a Northbridge cooler.

    @ Jacek

Woah. That is a monster setup :=) is it quiet?

I have used one for years without any problems whatsoever. Back in the days of RC5 I had the computer going 24/7 crunching keys, even during the warmest summer days. I also have a big fan (at really low RPM) inside the case, just to secure a constant airflow in the case past the CPU card, since I also have a low-noise PSU with fans that never starts (possibly due to the low Wattage of the Pegasos).
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)

This is a high-quality low rpm fan connected via a fan speed controller :) Silent and noiseless. My Peg2s are running 24/7 for a few years already - no problems whatsoever.

Here's another cooling solution, sadly the heatsink is not available anymore :( Wish I got more of these... This monster weights 250g!

I've been trying to find some of the Zalman coolers for sale in the UK, but I can only find coolers for modern graphics cards, none of the old small-form coolers.

This morning I've found the Vantec Iceberq4 Pro. Cheap, too.

It looks like it will do the job - has anyone else used one of these on their cards? My fan has a nice crunchy rattle to it, so I'm keeping an eye on the temperature sensor!

    Excellent.

Sadly, I was in the US last week, and whilst I was away, overclockers ran out of stock!

I've just picked one up from eBay instead!

GGS DATA in Sweden provided me with a nice northbridge cooler
    including the fan.
It ain't expensive and he is fast with delivery.
And it is a straight fit.

I just replaced the fan the previous user had installed with a brand-new Shunon one... 40x40mm 12v with a nice airflow... it should be enough right? the card does not get hot after about an hour or so that I checked it...
I use the same fans on the 604e's of my 2 csppc's, they manage to keep them cool... :-)

I've put my Peg 2 into a slighty tighter Antec Aria case, I've got the orginal Heatsink with a new fan, but I was thinking of replacing it withsomething a little more cooling, does this look any good?
