Yesterday I bought a SATA controller to try an axperiment with SATA disk (WD Raptor). Debian Linux recognize perfecly both controller and disk, The installation end without problems but when I try to reboot the system, the OF does not find the kernel to boot.
At the end of installation Debian suggest to reboot with boot /pci/scsi/disk@0,0,0:1 boot/ root=/dev/sda2 but doesn' work!!
I confessed I'm not a fox with OF commands, but what kind of command shows the partitions on a scsi disk?
The disk is very fast...the installation ends in 10 minutes...!!! I think on a normal work it would be amazing!!

SATA cards are not (yet) supported by OF....

Hi,

there might be an easy solution to the problem using the Raptor SATA disks (or any other SATA disk). You could try a SATA <-> ATA converter board. I found these for less than EUR 20 in stock.

I also have a raptor and such a converter, but just a Pegasos I G3 600. So it would be a waste using this fast disk on a rather slow machine, but I might try out if it works.

It could still work if you boot debian from an ide drive
ie
ide harddrive partition 3 /boot 100M-1G
sata harddrive partition 1 swap
2 / (root)

this way OF can read the boot kernel and linux can read the sata card/drive
you may have to rebuild the kernel to have the sata driver .

you could use an IDE-SCSI-Adapter with a SCSI-Controller.
