    Hi guys

I just transferred my peg into a case with an lcd display with temperature sensors.. I have a sensor on my g4 cpu reading @ around 53 degrees centigrade. A couple of questions plz

    1. What is a good operating temp fot the peg g4 cpu?

    2. What is the danger temp when the cpu will start to stress/burn?

53C are fine for most processors. You're stressing the processor at over 70C.
I doubt that it will die 'til 90C or over, usually the problem is not the overall temperature of the chip but the fact that specific gates will be overheated more than the rest and will die.

    Hi Magnetic,

    Can't say for your PegII-G4 MPC7447-1 ghz.

My A1-XE/G4 MPC7450-800mhz is three years old today. Last month the cpu fan
failed. I replaced it with the compatible Sunon fan I could find. I've had a
CoolerMaster Musketeer2 intalled for the last year. My thermal sensor is
attached to the heat sink at the fan base.

I read about 34/35°C (90/92°F). Whethere or not that's true, I assume so.

The Musketeer2 saved me from damaging the cpu. Bootup temp is about 30°C,
and hovers there a couple degrees over. But, one day March 20, the cpu fan
wasn't working; bootup was 45/50°C. I shut it down and verified the fan
stopped functioning. Whew! On the Musketeer2, 53°C is at the top of the
guage. The 'red line' at 60°C=140°F. I think you may want
to improve you cooling system: fan; heat sink; combination of both.

What does Freescale docs say about your 7447. At 1 ghz, 50°C maybe OK.
I would be happy with 40/45°C range.

I ran my Peg2 G4 24/7 and let it crunch Dnetc all the Time and the temp is 50/56°C in hot summer days it reaches up to 63°C.

About 60 degrees should be a "good" operating temperature.
In general, less is always better - but you might have to trade it against noise.

    >2. What is the danger temp when the cpu will start to stress/burn?

The Pegasos G4 CPU is specified for 105°C operation with high reliability.
The AmigaOne G4 CPU is specified for 65°C operation.

10 years reliability guaranteed @ 105°C AFAIK, but that is *junction* temp (very difficult to measure in practice for a Pegasos end-user). The further from the junction you measure, the cooler the reading will be. Especially if the measuring point comes in contact with an air stream, which I believe is often the case when probing the temp on the *outside* of the heatsink.

People reports this and that temp readings from their CPU's, but even if the CPU's in practice would have run *identically hot*, the readings would still differ a lot because of individual variations in the measuring methods, point of measure and various variations in the general surrounding envireonment, etc.

So IMHO, these discussions and comparisons about CPU temp is quite pointless, as long as the CPU can't probe the temp internally in a proper way. Just trust in b-plan's competence, and be happy! :-)
