I'm impressed. Anyone with a bit more detailed description of what we see where and how? :-)

    Who is behind all this?

Thanks for the post.. I think you need to rename it also..

@Dholm: was it a direct compile? What did you have to alter to get it running please?

I'd like to compile it for Debian

Yes, Pegasos Media Station is a good name, but when you short it down (PMS) it brings my thoughts to Pre-Menstrual Syndrome, you know that thing that seriously affects family happiness once in a while! ;-) :-P

That might lead to some sick and ridiculing jokes, who knows? ;-) Or is it only me that is some kind of a wierdo? :-P

It's available in Gentoo portage so I just emerged it. After that I just tweaked the config to make it work more or less out of the box on a Pegasos from the disk-image I made for Gunne. Although he had to make some final modifications to make it work with his Radeon iirc. I need to sit down with hwsetup and kudzu some day. ;)

    Hi,

Actually, the case is officially called "CS2", which stands for "Communication Station 2" and is manufactured by Tyra Group.

You are free to come up with any suggestion on names ;-) I did not think of short down of names. So we might find something better, hmm.... thinking....

Maybe we should have a contest ?

And thank you DJBase for suggestions !

    Palpatine & magnetic:

Well, that display looks fine ;-)

The reason I posted those pictures on Pegasos.org was for showing some people what Freevo is and how it can be used and what we have done so far, and what for instance a Media Station created around Pegasos, and for instance using this case, can be. Not only for showing the case or the display device in itself :-)

It is still work in progress.

It is also that the display device in itself might be the most expensive part in the whole concept, depending on choice of course. I for myself really like Neovo displays, they are the best in all aspects and nr 1, in my opinion. However they do not have any widescreen format yet, but the X-AV series are very nice. In a test that was in a computer magazin here, just some weeks ago, they won over all other marks easy. They claimed really no discussion who is nr 1...

When ready, we will hopefully show it around at some places also.

    Gunne
    Best wishes, Gunne

Yes, probably. Freevo consists mostly of python code, so it's pretty easy to get it up and running. Isn't freevo available in your standard apt-sources? I have a vague recollection of having seen Debian packages somewhere.

It is not available for PPC, however there is a binary-all package.

    Gunne

    Edit:

Got it running under Debian now as well. A lot of Python-things to install...

Will this Communications Station be HDTV compatible?

    How about surround sound?

    Hi Aaron

    How high definition TV works

Most TV-cards is up to this, not sure if there is any that not is. For controlling your sattelite or cable TV receiver you still need to use that device. As for MPEG-2 and AC-3 sound most soundcards and also mplayer is compatible with the standard 5:1.

My estimation is that you will probably always get the best quality both for picture and sound when playing a DVD-movie. Whats distributed through cable or sattelite might not meet up with a DVD.

The display device you use is also an important factor for quality of picture. And of course cables and many other things also is important.

But this software gives more benefit to the TV, and as it is running upon Linux you have also all other possibilities that Linuxs gives and what the hardware also offer.

Thats how I see it, and you can also have different skins in Freevo :-) Another software for Linux fore this purpose is also MythTV

And as Pegasos is powerful, runs silent and is energy economical it is very good.

    Gunne

It would be very nice if some people would have the time and experience to do a linux image with all necessary drivers that would boot directly in mythtv.

I'm looking forward to build an HTPC with such a case as the Pegasos Media Station (except no need of screen).

The only thing is that I'm better attracted by DVB cards than those loosy quality TV cards.

Does anyone have experience with DVB recording to HD ? is there anything we could use on the pegasos to do so, is there anything ported yet ?

If only we could see some of these on the MorphOS side that would really be great.

    Hello cdfr

I did a search on yahoo for DVB Linux, and there is drivers and a lot of pages and info about it, and there is also an option in the kernel tree to activate it.

    Here is one page;

    DVB Linux

Will do test with it, but have now also to wait for new Pegasos-boards.

Perhaps it is also needed to use special cardreaders with decryption possibilities for being able to use your credit-card for pay TV-channels.

Here is some more screenshots with a new nicer skin, and with the module for weather info loaded.

And yes it would be nice to be able to use this software in MorphOS, it is open source, but Im no programmer.
