NIC Cards for Peg II

After struggling with networking in MOL, I have decided to try adding a NIC card to my Peggy II to see if that can resolve the problem. Is there a list of 'approved' NIC cards that work with the platform?

So far any card that uses a realtek 8139 chip works. You can tell its
that chip by the little crab looking graphic ion it. I have several
left over from my Mediator days. If you want one PM me and we can work
    something out.

Networking and MOL probs have nothing to do with your internal networking. You DONT need a NIC card IMO. You just have the configuration wrong. I have networking on my peg2 with onboard network. I have no probs with onboard with MOS, LNX, and MacOS...

ps its not easy to get the networking working..

I've tried two different configs, the one in the web site you posted and another one just using a DHCP server on the linux side. I'm going through a router, and I assume that throws a few nuts in the works. Nothing I seem to do with addressing or configuration seems to solve it. Supposedly, the Mac will get it's nameservers from resolv.conf, which it doesn't. Networking on the Mac side always asks me for a DHCP client id. I thought this would be temporary after a reboot, but it isn't. It just sits there and asks me for it. If it were a normal mac, the reboot would get rid of this request.

I had networking going on the MOS side at one point but that's gone now too. Says it connects with Miami, but it's not really connected.

BTW...the MOL script results at the end say it's connected through the 100 port. That doesn't make any sense.

    Thanks.

Harry, Networking in MOL is dead easy. But you have to make sure that you have your linux distribution configured correctly and working. Are you using PegXmac or a full linux distribution? And do you have internet access? Can you ping your router and get to web sites? If you do, setting up MOL's networking is very simple. I only changed one single line in one file and then it works. I am assuming your router's IP address is 192.168.1.1 and you have DHCP turned on in the router.

If you do, you only have to add your nameservers to the molrc.net file (if I remember correctly the name of the file) and that's it.

I wish I could say the same. Yes, the linux side shows up on the DHCP server in my router. I have tried two ways of networking with MOL. I have downloaded a DHCP server and started it from within Debian. Normally, this would give me a straight shot out of my router and it does. It does with or without the DHCP router started in Linux (Debian, full). I have NOT yet tried to add the nameservers to the molrc.net file yet. I see a spot for one nameserver, and am assuming they can be listed one below the other. These are obtained from the resolv.conf file, I know that.

I have also tried ipmasq and dnsmasq, and that method didn't work.

Under each instance, when I restart MOL, the ethernet port says it's connected to the internet but nothing can find addresses. I'm assuming that's because the name server addresses aren't in the molrc.net file. I will do that now.

    Thanks!

From looking at the tunconfig file and the molrc.net file, the nameservers are automatically generated for MOL by the script from /etc/resolv.conf. This isn't happening and I don't see a spot to enter them manually.

I did find the file for the nameservers to be specified in. Tried that, no luck either. I wonder if it's got to do with the rev of kernel I'm using.
