Might it happen so that there WILL BE NO OF update for Peg1? I mean not in the distant future but something about 2-3 months... :-?

    From Linux kernel 2.6.7 readme:

"Notice: The pegasos 1 OF is not able to handle the huge initrd used in this kernel, so you would need to build your own kernel, or wait for an (unlikely) pegasos 1 OF upgrade."

I know nothing, but I can share some thoughts:
PegasosII is a lot better than PegasosI, PegasosI is discontinued, there exists upgrade scheme for PegI -> PegII, Genesi ain't riding their cars with full trunks of banknotes, updating fw (for discontinued) hw is expensive and equals trowing money in wind.
I'm not saying there will be no update, but focus is elsewhere.

I guess it's personnal (BPlan doesn't communicate *at all*). But I think he knows enough to be close to the truth ;)

(That's what I already thought even before he posted that... But I had some hope which is now gone ;()

There are hundreds of perfectly useful Peg1 machines out there, and a
FW upgrade that fixes at least the most obvious problems would
seriously increase their usefulness. So I do hope for an upgrade
sooner or later, but I agree that it doesn't seem like it would happen
    anytime soon.

In the same time, I'm waiting my upgrade Peg I -> Peg II since 7 months... So, the upgrade (hardware and fw) doesn't seem to be important for Genesi...
What's happen to users ? Nothing, they must wait... and wait...

    So, I'm waiting :-P

I think with many peg1s being used in educational programs, or for developers, it would be nice to have SOME kind of firmware upgrade...

Great news! Because I am tired of glitching memory and no boot-menu... 8(
BTW will it be G4 cards for Peg1?

    @ QMaster:

Do You mean a BootMenu, where You can select
Your operating system? If yes, that's possible with
Peg1. BootCreator supports Peg1 with the option
"ALT" (Alternative) in the command line interface/shell.

There *was* G4 cards for the Pegasos 1! The http://www.pegasos.org server runs on a Peg1 G4 for instance. But due to a certain component (which was later replaced by the Marvellous Marvell chip ;-)) the G4 on Peg1 was kind of problematic - the CPU cards worked only together in certain combination with motherboards (the motherboards was manufactured in exactly the same way with exactly the same components, yet only a random selection of them would run stable enough with the G4 cards (if I remember correctly)), so a time consuming and expensive match-making/testing pocess had to take place. This also made it impossible to sell G4 cards to existing Pegasos 1 users since there would not be any guarantee that the card would work with your particular motherboard. But there *was* G4 for the Peg1! About 20-25 of them, if I remember correctly what was said about this earlier! :-)

Buy a Pegasos II G4. That one is so much better, and in other ways too. And soon it will have the new 7447A G4
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    Two more months? ;-)

I strongly hope Genesi won't set the SNDF Europe as a landmark for the release of better CPU cards or MorphOS 1.5, because that would mean another quarter year of waiting. *aargh*

    @ Henri:

Nah... That bootmenu has no timeout. It is not useable for me because of a fidonet node running on my Peg. It must boot automatically if I am not at home...

Ok. I see. But I CAN'T buy a PegII because there is NO official genesi dealer here YET.

    remembre that :

Hi Serge, we have said many times we will.

We cannot tell you when OR how yet, but when we can we will!

    Added Note:

There are a TOTAL of EIGHT people who have purchased the upgrade online through Genesi and who have not yet received it. IF YOU PAID AND YOU HAVE A PEGASOS I YOU WILL GET A PEGASOS II ! So far, we have discovered that three of these individuals did not even have a Pegasos I !!!

We have also had Resellers pay only the cost of the Pegasos II of 200 Euros claiming they needed them for upgrades and then sell them at full price, PLUS in one case the reseller sold the Pegasos I and did not send the funds to Genesi!

We will upgrade the Pegasos I to the Pegasos II when we have ENOUGH EXTRA production to support the exchange and we are sure that it can be done honestly. For the moment, we have SOLD everything we have made at FULL PRICE and now have orders for all production through JUNE (at full price).

We will make the upgrade offer good, but everyone needs to be patient. Please remember, it is a good will gesture on our part. There is NO COMPANY in the IT world today that would do such a thing for its user community...

If you have paid your money to Genesi and you want it back you can have it plus interest! Just send us an email if you feel this is the best way for you.

    R&B

Maybe a new production will begin soon. It's my wish
