Peg1 and unknown chip

    Peg1

    Peg2

On the Peg2-pic you can see a chip left of the IDE,
    between the 2nd and 3rd screw-hole.

On the Peg1-pic you can see that you can't see a chip in that place.

Now I remember there was a discussion about this
empty place back when the Peg1-pics went online,
and one common theory was that it was for some
sort of disk-on-chip talked about by BBRV during that
    time.

I also seem to remember that the company producing
those chips went under shortly afterwards, and that
none of the Pegs was supplied with them.
Seems rather unlikely that an Peg2 would have one,
    as suggested by the pic.

Now yesterday I finally decided to use the UDMA-cables
I had lying around here for months, and suddenly noticed
that there was a chip in that place (Peg1, April1)....

So what is it ? Were all the theories back than wrong ?
Do I have a special Peg ? Or what ? Or who ? Or when ?

Left to IDE? It is flash-ROM containing Pegasos OpenFirmware. You may
be wondering why there are some free pads around - it is just because
Pegasos board is prepared to take 4 different chips as flash-ROM in different packaging or different capacity. Of course only one set of
pads can be used for the chip at a time.
