iBook G4 Wifi

On MorphOS 3.18 I'm facing frequent connection issues with the iBook wifi card.

It seems supported and according to MorphOS it is connected to the access point, but the access point does not list the device as connected. And in fact I have to retry multiple times before the access point finally recognizes it as connected.

When it's connected sometimes using Wayfarer or Amiradio does not work, but running ping against google.com in the shell does work

Is there any setting I can tweak to improve the situation?.The AP already exposes a 2.4Ghz network as obviously the 5Ghz one is not compatible with the Wifi card, but even so I can get a working connection only when I retry 10/12 times. And even when connected the transfer rate will be around 100kb/s

    What access point is it?

    Possible reasons:

    Access point:
    - Band steering, "mesh" functions will cause the driver to disconnect. Fix: disable band steering / don't use a "mesh" router (from the description that's possibly your issue)
    - 802.11g/n/ax may be causing problems. Fix: make sure the 2.4GHz radio is set to 802.11b/g or use a dedicated radio. Generally if your AP is newer than 2005, it's likely to cause issues
    - 40MHz channel width on 2.4GHz may be causing issues. Fix: switch to 20MHz

    iBook:
    - The antenna cables may be damaged. They are routed through the screen hinge so they are way past their expiry date. Fix: replace cables and antennas (from the description that's possibly your issue)
    - Signal may not be strong enough for the iBook or there may be too much congestion on the channel you're using. Fix: monitor wifi congestion and pick the least congested channel, alternatively use a wired connection or a wifi 2 eth bridge

    MorphOS:
    - There are some wifi packets that we know can crash the driver. We've so far been unable to figure out which ones exactly. Fix: none (this likely isn't your case, though)

It was a connection shared via WiFi tethering from a Samsung phone, so there wasn't much I could configure. I could only pick between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radio and that was all.

Oh, tethering doesn't usually work. I have no Android phones to test with.

Just my 50 cents on the topic.

Wasn't there also an issue with channel 13 (and 11?) not supported by Apple Products before 2014 or so? Worth to look into the channel used. Especially when the AP is switching the channel dynamically this could cause drop outs and reconnects.
