Maybe.....OF does'nt use much RAM and does only a rudimentary RAM-test at start-up.
A break after the Apple-logo, points in most cases to a not established kernel (this is done be bootx (bootloader) in /coreservices). OSX core or Quark-core (MorphOS) needs much more RAM!
In some (very) rare cases the CPU No.1 itself causes such or a similar behaviour. Can be tested by changeing CPU position on motherbord (needs also new thermal calibration then).
Damage of motherbords are very rare - most of issues are caused by mounted devices as RAM, CPU-towers, PCI/AGP-cards, or masstore-devices and last, but not least, power supply or faulty PRAM-battery.
