Does anybody knows if a Radeon 5870 MacPro Edition would work with the OF in the G5?

The last cards that did have a G5 compatible OpenFirmware BIOS were the Radeon X19xx cards AFAICT. The Radeon 5870 MacPro Edition pretty safely only works for Intel-based MacPro machines.
It is also a pretty safe bet that none of the Evergreen based cards work for MorphOS currently (in a PMac G5), at least I didn't manage to run any of those which I have available.
It is a different story for MorphOS supported machines like X5000 which run the BIOS code upfront.
I still need to identify what the actual issue with PMac G5 machines is.
I only managed to run some HD2xxx/HD3xxx cards on my PMac PCIe G5 so far.

Afaik the 5870 should run with the new driver that BigFoot has released some days ago.
I have a Radeon HD 4xxx running in my PMac G5 Quad it outputs UWQHD through HDMI but has no 3D support.
Ok i will go then for the 5870 non Mac Edition. I have still my Radeon 9650 that supports the OF.

So it's probably no disadvantage to have Linux running on the G5 and get the relevant data of cards working/not working on MorphOS via lspci -vv -s [busnumber] ^^

It's at least been useful enough to have known already last year that it's not true that "none of the Evergreen based cards work" ;-)

If you are looking for a good and fast Card that is supported by the new driver then get you the 5870. It's the fastest afaik. The 6870 is slower then the 5870.
