G5 Fan Calibration Questions

    I just removed the liquid cooling for my 2.7 and went to heatsinks from my 2.3 donor system.

    Does anyone know the location of the ISO for the Apple calibration software?

    Will I need to hook up the liquid cooling unit (off to the side) for proper calibration or will it just figure it out without it being hooked up.

    I downloaded a few different version and nothing booted.

    Any ideas?

    @ matt3 - I have used the Apple Service Diagnostic (ASD) discs that I put on DVD that I got from the resource identified in this thread, and they booted OK for my purposes, that was v2.5.8 and v2.6.3, but I was using them on a G5 2.3GHz Dual Processor (Dual CPU - NOT Dual or QUAD CORE), but they have to be written/burned to disc, as they cannot be used directly just as an ISO. I don't know if you have done that so far, but I would be hopeful the v2.6.3 discs would suit your requirements. 8-D

    For PM G5 you have to use 2.5.8.
    As Newsense wrote: real CD-Boot only! Not from ISO.
    If you don't have a CD-Drive: There is a possibility to boot it from USB.

    I must be doing something wrong...

    I tried creating a CD with the correct version and the powermac refuses to see it.

    Should the contents of the CD be readable in MOS? Nothing shows up in ambient. Tried writing 3 different CD's using 2 different programs. Converting the .dmg to and iso. So far no luck. The G5 just skips it on boot up.

    I can try the USB route next I guess, but I know the CD works because I was able to install MorphOS.

    Maybe the firmware or video card is hosed? I noticed with booting with my spare mac video card since I can't use my 1950 and get to firmware, the firmware screen has tons of colored pixels on it.

    You need ASD 2.6.3 for the PCIe G5. Mount the DMG under OSX, then go to /Volumes/ASD Dual Boot 2.6.3 and copy the contents into USB. In Terminal do

    Code:

    cd /Volumes/ASD Dual Boot 2.6.3
    cp -a * /Volumes/USBStick

    Change to the actual USB stick name of course, you can ignore some warnings that'll pop up.

    You then need to get into OF and type

    Code:
    boot ud:,<backslash>diags


    Make sure the USB is FAT32 and no larger than 32GB. I've just tried this process here with success.
