Today received at home a nice Pegasos 1 April 2 G3/600 and i need buy some components:

    - A quiet 0dB fanless 250-350W ATX power supply.
    - A fast, quiet, low temperature, low CPU utilization ATA100/133 HD around 120-200 Gb. Better if it has 3 years warranty.
    - A quality 20" or 21" CRT monitor :)
    - A nice aluminum/black flex/micro-atx case.

I hate fans and noise! :-x

    Recommend me some gadgets :-)
    Pegasos II G3/600MHz
    AMIGA 4000 060/50Mhz 604e/233MHz

You might want to consider warranty terms more than warranty duration. Some manufacturers refuse to replace HD unless it's COMPLETELY broken, you can get some brands changed, even if just HD noise becomes "weird"

Get a Seagate HD they are very quiet and reliable. For a monitor I recommend NEC the optics are excellent. For micro atx take a look at Lian Li and Aopen...

About the Seagate, "caveat emptor" - while idling, they periodically emit a
very annoying "buzzing", which lasts anywhere between 30 seconds and a minute
or more. Official word from Seagate is anything from "we're not aware of the problem"
to "it's a feature to prolong head life"...feature or not, I was VERY disappointed
with mine. Apparenly the problem is more noticeable on 80 gig drives, but after looking
around on the net, there appears to be A LOT of unhappy Seagate customers right now
because of this. Also -- Seagate's drives rank amongst the worst in regard to high
    CPU usage.

I'm probably going to ditch my Barracuda and buy a Hitachi...they have 120 gig PATA
models with 8MB cache (smoother system operation during heavy disk transfer),
cost a bit less and are only *slightly* louder at idle...plus, they completely
DESTROY Seagate in the performance benchmarks. No annoying "buzz",
    AND...they have a 3-year warranty. ;)

I have a 40gb Maxtor on my Peggy. When I assembled and turned it on I thought it didn't work and got worried, as I couldn't hear the hd spin.

Luckily I noticed the OF screen soon .. turned out it DID work.. the hd was just that quiet =)

I just got the same drive. Maxtor Diamond plus 7200 RPM 40gb! Its nice and fast and fairly quiet. Though the 80gb Seagate I have is even more so..

I've noticed this "buzz" noice on my 80GB Seagate too... it seems to
be there for a while after disk access.

Heh, I wonder how you came to this conclusion? Since data is
    transfered via DMA...

Even with DMA transfers, you'll still get some CPU usage, although
obviously not as much as transfers on the same hardware without using
DMA. Open your task manager and watch your usage indicator whilst moving
    some big files around...

Anyhow, here's a link about the Seagate's CPU usage, rated here about
mid-pack (actually not that bad really). It's definately not a big deal,
and I highly doubt the difference would be noticeable (except maybe on that
WD). I only mentioned it because the original poster asked about it. :)

    Here

Not the best resource on the net, so take it with a grain...
