    Hi all,

My main MorphOS machine is a 17” PowerBook. This feels rather delicate and very bulky for lugging around. Excited to read about the 12” iBook as a potential alternative cheapy for throwing in the rucksack and taking on the road. But does this have WiFi that MorphOS can use? I can see on eBay Airport cards for the iBook, but looking at a previous thread here this was on of its limitations.

    Many thanks in advance

I guess this depends on the model. The later ones came with a compatible WiFi card pre-installed. The 2004/2005 models should all have a supported card installed.

The "earlier" iBooks have either A1026 or A1027 AirPort card installed and only the latter is supported by MorphOS. The "newer" (mid 2005 - the 12" 1,33 GHz and 14" 1,42 GHz) ones have a combo AirPort/Bluetooth module (I believe it's the same that's found in Mac Mini and the "late" PowerMac G5) that should just work.

Excellent, thank you for the advice. Glad I didn’t rush into buying the first one I saw.

No problem switching A1026 with A1027 if needed. The real trouble with "early" iBooks is that:

    1. The maximum RAM for these machines is 1,25 GB (256 MB soldered onboard, while the "late" ones have 512 MB)
    2. The touchpad doesn't support "multitouch", so getting RMB click without an external mouse is quite uncomfortable.

    You surely meant GHz :)

That's right - the 1,33 GHz is one of the last iBooks ever made and it's got an AirPort/Bluetooth combo card (compatible also with Mac Mini, late 2005 PowerMac G5 and - as I believe - also the iMac G5). It works with MorphOS both in Mini (additional adapter required) as in iBook.
