yes sorry I was trying to be thorough and missed that.. I have indeed tried to boot by clicking on on the cd icon when I use the "option" key. It yields the same thing. The screen goes black for a moment and then goes and sits on the white screen.

Sorry i missed that detail that is vital to troubleshooting
