Going bonkers, new MorphOS User, need SCSI help

    Hi all,

Since I'm on a nostalgia trip for the Amiga, I came across the fine MorphOS. I scored a Power Mac G5 Dual core 2,7Ghz last week, from a local second hand site. Bought the licence key and started installing.

From my Amiga days, I still have a SCSI Jaz 2GB drive I would like to connect to the G5, but I'm having a very hard time figuring out which SCSI card is compatible with the Early 2005 Mac G5. I know it needs to be the PCI-X type, but I'm at a loss by what is meant by Symbios + 3 numbers on the MorphOS Compatibility page. searching for Symbios XXX on eBay gives me multiple cards, but I have no clue what would work.

    Any help and advice?

The 3 numbers is the chipset name. Full name is 53Cxxx (with xxx = number in the MorphOS compatibility list). Symbios was one of the manufacturers of the chipset. As it changed hands several times, you may want to look for NCR53Cxxx, SYM53Cxxx or LSI53Cxxx.

    Thanks, Andreas, for these pointers.
I'll have something to look for now when I'm searching eBay.

Edit: Came across a nice working NCR 53C810 on eBay. Will have to wait some time, it's shipping from US to Europe. I'll report back when I get this thing working. Does MorphOS need a driver when the card is installed, or is it automagically detected and supported?

Are there any 3rd party drivers for Adaptec scsi cards available? Even a 68k/openpci driver would be nice but aminet shows up nothing.

With my limited understanding, I'm a MorphOS newbie, Adaptec is not supported by MorphOS. The developers decided to only support the LSI / NCR / Symbios chipsets. See morphos.de/hardware

Adaptec is not supportet. Also, there are no 3rd-party drivers.......

My PCI card I bought from eBay just came in, and I learned this is not the case for all cards. The card physically does not fit into the PCI-X slot.
Reading Wikipedia on PCI-X slots showed me I need a 3.3V PCI card as the 5V card I have does not match the notch and slot. Another lesson learned.

    See picture for my predicament:
