At least here - having a X1950XT - it's way slower than my Radeon 9600Pro. So if no miracle with the drivers happens, you're way better off with your current setup.
BTW: Had problems the first time too, when trying to install my X1950XT - found out, that it didn't like the TV card I had also installed in the G5. Just a hint, if you happen to have other cards also installed in the G5.
