Just wondering, are there any PPC based motherboards still being produced in some form or another that future MorphOS releases can be released for? And I don't mean Sam460 and X1000/5000 =)

    Thanks =)

And I see what you did there .... :P - I suspect that those first 2 motherboards you listed make the X1000's price look like peanuts. Hopefully, I am wrong.

    1445 - Freescale T4240RDB
    1499 - Freescale T2080RDB
    2245 - Freescale P4080COME-DS
    2441 - A-Eon AmigaOne X1000 Nemo
2753 - Tyan Palmetto GN70-BP010 with SP010GM2NR (promo price effective until year end)
    2995 - Freescale P5020RDB, P5040RDB

Well the cheapest one stretches my budget but I *could* get one. But I doubt Morphos for these boards will ever happen.

The Tyan system is very cheap compared to other POWER8 systems starting at 7973 USD :-)

No, that is way too expensive. Just port to SAM boards/computers, and then later port to ARM and or MIPS devices, or even better ... Reunite with Genesi.

I hope not, since they are reference boards thus not really meant for consumers. The Amiga One from Eyetech should have been an important lesson learnt for anyone paying attention. Reference boards are also often extra expensive and often come with both development tools and licenses/terms that consumers aren't really interested in.

I really want that one, I so really do! A Power8! And for this, it's indeed *very* cheap!

But $2700 is simply *way* too much money for me... :-/

What are Genesi doing these days exactly? Other than running conferences in 3rd world countries?

I mean if it came with Morphos or something, otherwise I have zero interest of course :)

Note: Tyan's offer is full system. Not only the mobo which make this offer a real bargain.

Even if MorphOS was ported to any of those boards/systems, they would surely never be shipped with MorphOS. It would certainly be a matter of buying such board/system with whatever OS it comes with (if any) and then downloading and installing MorphOS separately at one's own risk.

Can you imagine dropping 4000 Euro on a motherboard only to find MorphOS doesn't work =D

Are these motherboard except AONE X1000 just evaluation or test motherboard? This fact could justify high prices as they are experimental and not produced in high quantities

Yes, as I wrote in my first posting to this thread, the Freescale boards are development (DS) and reference (RDB) boards and the Tyan one is a reference board.

Once I made a search on Alibaba.com for chinese manufacturers who work also with PPC processors. I selected 4 in base at some criteria like number of workers, volume of sellings, etcetera. I had their mail on the computer that got broken. I have to pick back the hard disk from it and get the mail addresses of the factories.

We can send mail to these manufacturers and verify how much they ask for prototyping a PPC motherboard, and how much it costs to produce a first batch of motherboards.

Once Enrico Morocutti of ACube (not sure about the name. My memory got bad sometimes), said to me that prototyping a new motherboard SAM, costs ACube at least 50.000 euro. Producing a certain number of batches (2 or 3) it costed the same fo a total of 100.000. All made in Europe, not in China that is cheaper,

Butremember that in China often precision and reliability often is sure very lower than Europe manufacturing.

As long as the lack of hardware is a very pressing problem for all Amiga community, i think that if we hire a bounty, then even A-EON, morphOS team and A-Cube could partecipate the bounty and donate the best part of the sum required for prototyping.

Well, at least they will be the main subjects interested in it, as they will be the dealers for selling it.

If an Amiga PPC Motherboard could drop to 299 Euro it will be sure a deal for entire community, in the lack of any ARM or Intel porting..

I could chek where are those mail address on hard disk kept sleeping in the dead computer and ask those firms.

Well, asking these manufacturers how much they pretend for prototyping it is just a question, and asking costs no money....

I have not been posting for awhile (not feeling too good), but I had weigh in on this one.

Your pricing quotes are not very accurate, as you are looking at the wrong parts.
There are several new PPCs that could be used that are much lower in price (ask Andreas and I'm sure he can point to a few).

As to the Chinese, I've had some very good boards fabbed by them.

Assembly, on the other hand, could be tricky.

And I'm not sure that the lowest price is as attractive as some of the higher end options.
    Power8 is facinating.
